Swapping muffler heat shields to new exhaust

Was thinking if anyone that has swapped out mufflers other than modified stock ones and replaced the heat shields especially the shield that has the sscc stamp could possible post pics and a how to would be a huge help to people who may be on the fence especially for those who ride in states like Maine. With Maine's new law the wardens will be ticket happy because they don't have to provide any evidence like a decibel test. Might even be worthy of a add to FAQ section. Pics would definitely be a plus. I'm not the greatest mechanic and I know others would definitely benefit if their are any members who would start a thread. Maybe even Turbo Dynamics could produce a post about it. I know I'm leaning towards the TD super quiet over the stock nodded if I can make the heat shields fit and make it look factory so if the wardens do check me I'll be good to go. I think my 2011 Apex my son rides is louder than a sidewinder with SQ or modded stock or dam close. Thanks for the input.
 
Im sure it will fit physically, but you may end up holding more heat in. Ben would be the one to talk to on this for sure. I have seen a few guys use stock shields on both SQ and also Sandale 3". It will look very factory, but still will be louder then a stock modded. In Ontario Ive seen many get ticketed as they are becoming wise to the stock sound of a winder. So I opted for stock modded, and I just like quiet now. Virtually impossible for a stock modded to get ticketed, but others I would worry about if a cop really wanted to get pricky and maybe look deeper into the sled, not that they would do that.

I would think, if Ben feels there is too much heat held...Then you could simply not install the thin insulation between shields and muffler body, so then the heat would not be held as long.

I would PM Saber, he did this with his sandale 3". And I know of a guy in my area that ran them on his SQ all last winter, and loved it. Just not sure if it "may" shorten the muffler body life.

I ran my stock shields with insulation on my TD SQ last winter, it fits nice, an untrained eye wouldn't know it's not the stocker. Ben said using the insulation will shorten muffler life.
 
I ordered factory covers and installed on TD sq. I ordered insulation, but decided not to use it as someone commented here that it holds too much heat.

I mocked up side towards engine and cut a few pieces with air die grnder to clear brackets. Used 2 ratchet straps to hold 2 sides tightly together and riveted it together. (I used ratchet straps without hooks as to not dent panels. Harbor Freight sells them.)

Also, by not using insulation, panels fit tighter and had to drill new holes in back panel. Utilized factory holes in front panel for factory appearance.

Looks factory, can't tell. Nice and tight, doesn't move or rattle.

we just finished up our covers tonight,ut now having problem getting that stud through the rubber mount,because the stud on the wastegate hole,along with 5 cap screws,and the one stud and nut,we will cut off some length of the stud to make removing the muffler for chain tension much easier,i think TD said he just does not run it,and 5 bolts is enough,what do you think?

I only ran 4 last winter, no issues...
