tail light and trim install

I removed my seat in the summer and now cant remember how the tail light and trim goes back on. My tail light is loose from the trim around it, I looked on the parts diagram and it list rivets that hold the 2 together, I don't remember removing them, should these 2 pieces be joined together before reinstalling them? The trim has some weather stripping foam around the top, it is very hard to tuck this under the seat. Thanks for any help

What about these rivets? I don't have them

The rivets go into the bottom of the seat not the trim

Also clean your tail light if you have not ! they get dirty from the exhaust out back , dark and dingy.will be nice and new,clear and bright again! i have seen many ,most dont even realize that there dirty till they clean them up!

All i use is some rubbing compound to clean it up.
