- 2007 Attak - LOVE my sled!!!
I have a Garmin Nuvi 550.
Was looking for ways to add trail maps to it.
Have been so busy with the YamaHeaters didn't really have time to mess with my new GPS.
Ended up talking to a friend and he sent me here.

This is WAAAAAYYYY Cool!
Just plugged it in and PRESTO!
TRAIL MAPS MADE EASY!
I REALLY like easy stuff & this rates in there as major easy!
(We need an EASY button emoticon, lol)
Just mainly needed Michigan for me, but know he has most snow states & Canada's trail maps.

Garmin is good stuff. I ride with the GPS on for the whole trip then when I get back I download the active track into Mapsource which I have Topo as well as City Navigator mapping. From there I edit the active track down to a 700 point or less track and rename it. As a side note I always save the active track in whole.
Then you can download the saved tracks into the gps for future use or reload the active track for a detailed track. I do this if I'm going back somewhere I am not real familar with and or with fresh powder to cover the tracks. Of course the trails change some year to year but around here they stay close.
If you lived here in NH I could send the file ( I have lot's of Northern NH trails stored) via email of an area you wanted to go for the first time so you could follow my track on your screen. Or if I just did a 150 mile ride and had good conditions and you wanted to go there as well within a short period you could download that file to follow.
I've had a few Nuvis for my truck and they differ from other units using tracks, etc. Gpspassion.com has a good Nuvi fourm for help with doing this kind of file transfers.
I prefer the Garmin 276C now because of the track options and user options and the ability to load Topo as well as street maps at once.
This system makes my ride more relaxed knowing I'm on the right trail, etc. Not to mention the color Topo map in the GPS to show exact location at all times.
Hope this helps.

It's not as easy as a preloaded card, but if you're creating your own maps and routes give ExpertGPS a look.
