have an attak how do i test the exhaust to see if the donuts and y pipes are bad....i used to be able to plug the rear of the exhaust and it would stall now it just keeps running....took it to the dealer they said the y pipes and donuts are good....where is the exhaust going shouldnt it be stalling??

Is the exhaust completley blocked off with the rag, as in nothing is excaping out the end with the rags whatsoever. If it is completly sealed and it doesn't stall you have a leak somewhere but you should beable to hear it leaking somewhere.

never changed approx 5300 kms....the funny part is dealer took it all apart and said they were good...

should take about 1 sec or 2 for it to stall if everythings ok! it will stall.if it does not, they need to take a closer look. ;):D

mine sounded good at 4000 miles, yet did not stall with rag test. i took it apart and one donut was gone, two well on their way and one good one. It might be a good idea to replace them anyway even as a preventative thing. Though it sure sound like a donut issue.

Check at the centre junction where the HEADERS & EXHAUST connect the "Y" tends to crack due to lack of support, very small hairlines almost non detectable, have someone plug the exhaust and get your ear close to that area and listen, if you could drop the rear partof your suspension to get a better view would make things easier, here's a pic of '08 with a added support.

I wonder if they inspected the pipes when they were checking the donuts. With the history of the donuts in general I'm suprised they wouldn't have asked you if you wanted them changed when they had it apart or just changed them if it's still under warranty.

I dont seem to agree with this rag test. I have had my donuts changed before this season started and now I am hearing this familiar sound again. So I just plug the pipes with my hands(gloves on) and it stalls asap. That sound alone is enough to make me want to take it apart cuz im no newbie on this issue. I will update when I take it apart and have a look.

i would think with warranty still remaining yamaha would replace the ti pipes with stainless one and the donuts at the same time being they are having problems with them...and as far as the dealer checking them the .5 hr labour they charged me i doubt they pulled the seat and tank to take them apart and actually look at them....im gonna pull it all apart before storage and if i find anthing wrong im not gonna be a happy camper lol....
