After much himming and hawing, and a few sleepless nights, I decided on a new sled. Next week I'll be bringing home a '12 XF800.

My Nytro has been awesome, and I still really love it, but the weight of it and the heavy steering is just getting to be too much. Add to that the fact that it's getting up there in miles, and would really need a good over-haul if I intended on riding it for another year, and it just made sense to get something new.

Now my only question is whether or not I should sell the Nytro. I'd love to keep it for the better-half, as well as for a back up sled. As a second sled I'm sure I'd get years of trouble free use out of it, but it is tying up alot of money.

Does anyone have any experience with the Nytro as a beginners sled? My gf has been riding it, but she's probably using it to about 5% of it's potential, and she might be better off on something lighter/smaller/cheaper.

Congrats on the new ride. It is snow check time. Been thinking about a new Poo. I dunno.....

If you find that the Nytro was heavy to steer, then imagine what it would be like to have your girlfriend try to steer it.

I say get her a lighter sled.

I would hold out until CAT gets some of the issues worked out on the new sleds! After reading the CAT forum on HCS and Arcticchat I would be scared of the reverse issues, tunnel bending, poor fitting plastics, etc. I was leaning towards a new 1100 turbo but I am so glad I didn't make the jump!

If she wants to ride something that's smaller, lighter and cheaper tell her to call me! lol....... I know, I'm not proud :moon:

I sold my Nytro in December and due to lack of winter did not buy anything new as of yet. I'm debating going with an Apex or switching back to Cat.( Wife says I'm getting too old for ditch banging.)
Just wondering what made you go with the 2 stroke? Was it strictly the weight issue?

My wife says I'm getting to old to bang all the time too. Oh wait you said ditch bang sorry I'm not to old to do that :jump:

Put on split rails skis with the Star Suspension and no more fighting heavy steering.

When I had my Apex I rented a Doo 550f (old REV. with camo blow-molded skis, no studs) for the wife. She preferred my Apex, didn't care for the heavy steering but didn't care if it was between the 550f and the Apex. I rode the Donk and is was quite squirmy with no studs and the soft suspension. I then got my wife a Phazer MTX, and I got an 09' Nytro. She rode my Nytro, she preferred her Phazer MTX. I have replaced shocks all around and it's fairly well setup. This year I got a 11' SnoPro with a 720, on my maiden voyage (no adjustments made yet) she rode it. She said I couldn't have it back, I will stay on her Phazer. Her only complaints later on were that it takes off hard (it's a race sled I said to myself) and that it smells like a 2 stroke. I'm not sure she even bows what that means other than she's heard me say it in the past. She loved how stable yet light the steering was.

It's a tough thing as they don't ride a lot so a 2S would last years, but a 4S would last a lifetime.

12 FX800 is a good beginners sled

Yeah, definitely the weight. I play off trail alot, and the nytro is just tooo heavy trying to tos around among the trees in deep snow. I was going to get a mountain sled, but in the end decided on another crossover.

The AC 800 is about as bullet proof as a two stroke can get, and most of the other Cat issues are with their 4 strokes.

Someone mentioned the phazer, and I was actually thinking about trying to trade the Nytro for a Phazer MTX, but I don't know if I'd want someone else's used sled unless I was buying barely used, or an older, cheap sled like the SKS. But that would be a good choice.

Either that or I could sell the Nytro and get a Venture Lite.

I agree with the Phaser. Had an 08 rtx before the Nytro. Aside from the lack of top end, was an absolute blast to ride. Maybe not for everyone but a hoot none the less. Good luck with your Cat, I haven't had the chance to ride one, but have heard the 800 and turbo are stupid fast! ;)!
