The Real Deal on Speedo Accuracy (Should say INaccuracy)

Yamahas odometer is as close as any of the other big 3s sleds.. Its the speedos that are off!!

THERE ..

DONE...

ITS OVER...

GIVE IT UP!!

Which by it's very nature means that if the odometer is accurate and the speedo ISN'T, and they take their input from the same place, something has been done to make the speedo read high. Get it?

YUP.... I GET IT .... ITS UNDERSTOOD... YES....

Maybe Yamaha calibrated speedo to a 10 tooth drive system

now lets look at the math

9x 2.52= 22.68 inches
10*2.52=25.2 inches

22.68/25.2=.9 so if you take .9 times what ever you get on the speedo that is what you are actually doing.

I remember reading a post for the 8 tooth driver and they where grinding 2 teeth off the gear to get the speedo to read correctly

speedo

i think that the mtn,s and shorty,s are out by the same amount. as they have differnt speedo head,s i have cut one tooth of my gear and the speedo still read a little high on the gun i would have cut two but i changed to 10 tooth drivers and put a stk gear back on and now its dead on with the gun. i know that i ride with a mtn rx 1 and we put 9 tooth drivers on his and now his is right on the odometers are off by the same amount now as the speedos were off before. note that the mtn also runs a 1 1/4 track as well we took the 2 in off when it was new ;)!

So what's the big deal anyway.

If i'm running at 117mph on the Dream meter or 105 on a GPS and fall off, It will hurt the same amount.

Jim;

The speed is incorrect at ANY indicated speed. Not just high speeds. It's just as wrong at 30 as it is at 100. And for those that doubt the accuracy of the GPS, it is DEAD ON with my Expedition's Speedometer as well as my Dad's Chevy Truck Speedometer. The odometer is accurate. The only way your theory of averages would work is if the speedo was ever accurate, and it is not. Not at any speed. The difference is obviously intentional, and if you notice, I said that the Ski Doo was exactly the same. It seems to be common practice. Why does this seem so impossible to you guys?

Well I guess there is some inconsistency in Yamaha's speedometers then, because mine is almost dead on below 50, get very slightly off until up around 80-90, then it gets WAY off above that. When I ride with my wife, sticking to 30-40 mph most of the time, my speedo was really accurate. My odometer was also very accurate. When I ride with my buddies on an all day balls to the wall ride, my speedometer is way off, but so is my odometer. After 200+ miles with them, my odometer is usually off by 20 miles or more when compared to my GPS. And I sure don't doubt my GPS...I've tested that over and over against radar (for speed) and against roadside mile markers on the highway.

I guess it just goes back to the old saying..."Your Mileage May Vary", although they weren't talking about this subject. ;)!

Aw mannnn, reading through 5 pages of that thread was like someone scratching their nails on a blackboard.....

WARNING:

LMAO

DO NOT READ ANYTHING IN THIS THREAD THAT COMES BEFORE THIS POINT LaLaLa

The only thing that has been said that we can all agree on is the fact that speedo does NOT read accurate GROUND speed.

That is all there is to say on this subject.

LMAO No I think the subject needs to be beaten a bit more it is still twitching every now and then.

Not quite dead yet! Took 2 teeth off spdo gear had sherrif's deputy shoot me with radar in squad car started 1/4 mile away dead stop up hill just be fore I went by sled was't pulling much more, gravel showing thru in a lot of spots spdo read 94 my buddy pulls up ask me how fast I was going told him 94 he hit the recll button and it read 93. seems close raced 800 doo HO my spdo read 101 his behind me 111 he was topped out.odo is not adding the miles up nealy as much as every one elses not a bad thing! Yup the spdo is off. There now it's dead. LaLaLa :ORC

Seems to be accurate with what my ski-doo 670 guage read because it said it would do 105mph tops and my rage says 110 and last week I was beating 670's and a 700mxz ..so seems to be in proportion to ski-doo speedos anyways. :4STroke:
