you can get them at most michigan dealers.

Even Wally World... anywhere that can sell a hunting license can get you a trail permit. As stated above... on the weekends the DNR and the Sheriff's are out in force and they WILL ticket you if you don't have one. It's definitely a heck of a lot cheaper than riding in Canada... As for everything else in the UP, it all depends on where you stay. Typically less than $100/night and much cheaper lodging can be found around- just have to look. Gas can be tough to find in certain areas though, so follow the old yooper adage... "never pass a gas station"- unless of course you are familiar with the area and you know the next pump is still open (run into this alot since the economy tanked). I have found quite a few gas stops that are on my GPS that are boarded up when I get there- either out of business, or they close early (6 p.m.). Other than that- right now it's the only game going other than northern MN. Definitely worth the drive-

I got mine in Hurley WI. Any gas station, or local chamber of commerce. $35. Well worth it! Trails are great in the U.P. I completely agree with the saying "never pass a gas station". We were on our way up to Superior, and a guy stopped us. He said he was coming back from Superior and the gas station was closed down. We turned around as well. I'm not chancing it! All in all, a great time up there. We paid $116 a night for a room with two queen beds in Hurley. Have Fun!

DNR is on a rampage this year in the UP, make sure you have your current state reg. up to date as they check for that as well.

100% truth! I had never been stopped by DNR since I have been sledding. I was checked twice on my trip to munising 2 weeks ago. make sure tor reg is in the right spot too, saw some other guys getting stopped for having theirs in the wrong area. they are out in force this year!

its ok by me though, I dont drink and all my paperwork is legit. maybe it will keep some of the crazies in check, knowing that big brother is out there and keeping things in check.

make shure you registration is in the correct place too or you might get a ticket

Caution: Your tunnel is not the right place to place your Michigan registration. If you place it there you will get a ticket if stopped, guaranteed!

Agreed! At least its not a "free for all" out there!
I think the sticker goes in the middle of the windshield right? I hope so. I've put 500 miles on in the U.P this year and haven't seen one D.N.R.

Actually the law says directly above OR directly below the headlight. Either is legal. That's for the trail permit. Registration stickers, at least MI ones, have to be on the side of the front of the machine.....NOT on the tunnel.
