There is HOPE!! Yamaha covered these parts under WARRANTY !

For all of you who have been having problems getting things covered by warranty, don't give up. I had mine in for the following; bent subframe ( spindle stood straight up), Fox Float lost all oil, lower ball joints shot, grooves in primary clutch sheaves, and excessive free play on the steering. This is the only sled I have bought at this dealer, so don't get the impression that he owes ME anything more than anyone else. I know all of these items have been covered on TY all winter long, but I just want to let you know that they (your dealer working with Yamaha) have come thru in this case. The subframe issue was more of a rear upper A-arm mount problem. The mount broke loose from the subframe! NO I DIDN"T HIT ANYTHING! Fatigue after 3256 trail miles I guess. The freeplay in the steering was fixed by replacement of ALL the joints between the bell crank and the spindle. Both of the primary sheaves were replaced (was suposed to be the entire clutch). All ball joints replaced, and the Fox Float was rebuilt. Don't kid yourself, this took alot of tooth pulling and arm twisting towards the dealer and Yamaha, but after 6 weeks it's as good as new. The CS people are slow as molases in January, but were able to help me out. The dealer was slow to react also, but when you bring in your sled when he has 6 guys in line to order an '09, and they hear what is wrong, boy does the man jump then. Sorry I got a little long winded, but its been a long process. I haven't added up all the parts cost, but would ballpark around $1600. Keep calling and talking politely to the best people you can find and don't take NO for an answer. BTW for those of you that have been "bending back" your subframe, it will scare the crap out of you when you see just how little weak metal you have been trusting your life and limb with. I would like to add something to this.

I haven't had much front end bending so it has never been an issue that I have bought up with my dealer so I can't speak to it.

So far however I have had ball joints replaced, as well as Fox Float which too was leaking oil.

Next, on my RTX I had the shock end fitting from the front shock reservoir to the front shock back out of the shock it would seem. At the time I was in the midst of a groomed smooth as pavement trail ride trip and this happened somewhere in the midst of a 850 km three days. Initially the hose with fitting stayed in front of the wheel it wraps around where it basically pounded off of and pitted the aluminum shock body anywhere it could reach. At some point this hose caught the wheel and was wrapped back around and under it at which point said hose and fitting was just long enough to get under the shaft that both shocks mount to. It ground half way though this shaft, put a fine gash in the rail on that side, as well as took the top corner off every inside track lug on that side of the rail. It also damaged basically every part that the fitting or hose could come in contact with. This work has yet to be done but it is going in Monday and I'm told all damaged parts will be replaced under warranty. This is one that I would advise everyone to check. I will report back on how this goes. They haven't seen the track yet as I just bought in the skid. I would like to see it replaced but I don't expect that to happen for free as they track does have 2700 km on it.

Now I only discovered this because my sled has become excessively noisy exhaust wise and I was trying to find out where so I took the skid out for easier access and to clean the skid while I was at it. Though not dealer diagnosed yet, I have come to the conclusion that there is also something broke/worn where the exhaust meets the engine, and I'm guessing it is the same as what I hear with Apex, donuts. The sled does not make this excessive noise when initial started nor at high speed. It does it when it gets hot, idling in the yard, on the trailer, or trolling slowly on twist woods trails or breaking fresh trail, etc. So it is at the higher end of the heat scale but before the light has come on.

One more observation. Buy a skid plate and use it. I ran one all season and still managed (unknown to me how) get a dent in an oil filter through the skid plate and stock panel. I'm guessing it was one rock I hit at speed square on much earlier in the season when I came on an open washout too fast and swerved to avoid it, finding said rock instead as that is the only rock I remember hitting with the skid plate that could have done this. I had it out for one ride before the skid plate and managed to squat one of the bottom tubes of the sub frame and I can't remember that impact at all so again, the front area from front end sub frame, engine bottom, including filter and tunnel front/heat exchanger are vulnerable so the skid plate is good insurance.

My only other complaint is hyfax wear. I shall say no more.

While it is in for this work, I'm going to see what I can do with it on an XTX as that is what I really want and I should have waited for it. I think the deficit will be too big however so I'm likely going to keep it. If I can afford to do so I'm probably going to stretch it and add a 10 gallon tank as range was an issue for me this season, multiple times.

The season is over for me and I was very satisfied with my sled and my season. Once I got the sled dialed in, got used to rider forward ergos on the snow I had a blast. The sled didn't strand me once and I don't expect it ever will.
