I really want to learn how to play a guitar, my new years resolution. Ive been checking around comparing and what not. I really want a electric guitar. whats the best bang for the buck?

Probably good, I really like Yamaha guitars. That is basically a copy of a Fender Strat. Would guess it is made in China if the price is less than $250 for the package. China is fine, bought a great guitar there for $66 in 2002 when we were there adopting our second child. It is very good quality and it is beautiful. Bought one there in 1997 for about $40
You can get a Mexico made Fender Strat for about $250, but you wont get the amp and all that.
Can you try one out? got a friend who plays who could go with you?

I never buy a guitar until I play the exact one I am going to buy for at least a half hour at the store. If it does not feel and sound like a good friend, I dont buy it.

For starting out an acoustic is also an option.

Bought my son a Dean guitar, real nice instrament. It is not one of their high end units but still nice.
