Been thinking about new skis. Have some Christmas money to spend so this got me thinking.
I use the XTX as it is intended. Ripping trails and exploring the deeper snow. The stock skis are OK but I feel they could float better and on soft trails they push a bit and this scares me. They seem to work very well on packed groomed trails though.
What direction should I be going. I hear the curves work very well on Nytros. How do they float? Do you really need the Nytro specific carbide? They seem to be very pricey though for what they are. But seems like everything in the snomo biz is overpriced.
Appreciate the help.

Some of the skis I know of are:
Curves
C&A
Flex Ski
USI
SLydogs
How are the USI skis? They look innovative, are they any good?
Also, I do not want to increase steering effort

Well increasing steering effort will be tough prevent with any aftermarket good flotation ski. That is if you also want to prevent pushing in the corners. I love my Curve's so far, I've only been in the deep for short spurts so take it for what it's worth. I do feel they provided enough float that it would make a great crossover ski. I had USI's on my Apex and while the floatation was excellent, the steering effort was quite high though. I never tried the easy steer plates but did move the mounting point around which made a dramatic change. However to get the point and shoot agressiveness I was looking for there was no way around the heavier steering effort. Many say the Pilots have the best effort but lack the floation, I feel my Curves steer so easy that it's hard to get used to it at first. With that many of the XTX owners are complaining of heavy steering efforts. Must be the different skid or something

I have slydogs trail with 6" carbides on mine. would not buy em again. Not great on my 08 fx or 09 xtx.

Too aggressive, push, etc.?
Since your a Yamaha vet, is the XTX steering effort really that bad? Anything to compare it to.

That eliminates C&A skis. They are super aggressive, which is why you will see them installed on every race sled but the steering effort is considerably more than stock skis.loudelectronics said:Also, I do not want to increase steering effort

I have ridden for 3 days strate with 800 & 1000 doo,s. we ride super aggressive. When your at a slower speed or decellerating the front end has a lot of weight on it...similar to my 08 but with out the nervousness. There is a lot of skii pressure but keeping on the throttle or accelerating reallly lightens the front end up. Sooooo much better then my 08 FX but the heavy front end is still there...just not quite as bad.

So turk, are going to stick with the slydogs and try some adjustments or look at something else?

Gonna stick em out. Getting some great upper body work outs. After 3 days riding aggressively I can,t lift my arms over my head

I have the Slydog race skis with 6 inch shaper bars and I am finding that they push in the corners.Ill have to try some different suspension settings maybe? If not gonna go back to C&A.

I have Simmons Gen-2 skis on the way for both XTXs. Both will use two cutter bars on each ski. I have no doubt it'll be an improvement, particularly in the fluff. Reports in a week or so.

How about the new C&A's with the two rounded strips (kind of like the razors but less aggressive)

I've heard that a lot and it may be be obvious but can someone define "ski push in the corners"?
Thanks

When you turn the skis in a corner the machine still turns but pushes through the corner as if trying to go straight. Like understeer in a quad or car.

Okay, that explanation makes sense - thanks. I'm hoping the Slydogs don't do that on my VL.
