A friend of my friend is selling one of his sleds. Its a blue 2003 RX1 with 1400 miles. Is also clutched and has a 1/2" lug camoplast track with 192 chisel studs. The track and studs have one ride on them. He said the original track was defective and ripped on him. Only thing that I dont like about the sled is it does not have reverse (but i guess i can add it) The sled is mint and he is asking $5500 for it. Does this seem like a good price or not?
What to look out for on the 03s? any major problems? I know that there have been some front suspension updates done on the newer machines.... any idea what that will cost to do to this sled? I am also thinking of putting an m10 under it. 99% of the time I trail ride in VT/ME and will have my wife on the back (also would be installing a RX1 seat jack)
thanks for any advice or opinions.

The front end updates will cost you about $250 includes swaybar, longer links and springs for the front shocks. Makes a huge difference. $5500 is not bad when you consider these things will last way longer than any two stroke

NO! By the time you install the front end parts, reverse and new rear skid you'll be well over $7K. Not to mention that track has too small of lugs. If it were me, I would look for an 04 Warrior. Not only will it have all the updates but I believe the longer skid will work better for two-up riding. It will be a little more than $5,500 initially but by the time you end updating the 03 you'll be farther ahead with the 04.
Warriors come standard with reverse too

With your wife on the back, you would be better off with a used Warrior. You have to do the updates Convert mentioned to make the sled handle properly. Even if your friend lowers the price, it would better to have a longer skid for two people on the back end.

I agree with Mighty and Suisse 100%. That track on it is absolutely worthless unless you are only going to be drag racing on ice or snow. With the amount of money you are considering for upgrades $1500 M-10, $400 track, $250 front handleing, $400 reverse your cost is around $8,000. You can get an 05 RX-1 with the Monoshock rear suspesion with reverse for just a couple of hundred dollars more.
