Thinking of going back over to a Cat M8 or M1000 but before I do what can I do besides a turbo on my Apex MTX to make it run better I have done MT Tamer skid barkbuster front boss seat ect. to lighten it up I like the sled but is really ticks me off when I strugle getting out of some areas where a stock M8 has no problems, I have a Challenger Extreme 2.5x16x162 on it now and I was thinking of putting a powder claw on the extreme seems to trench to bad any ideas I really want to stay with Yamaha but they just don't seem to give a crap about us mountain guys
Thanks

apex blower 136 for asphalt racing
osp drag race sled (apex engine based)
you'll never get like an m8 without any poweradder.
the apex absolutely need both serious weight reduction and more power.
And by weightreduction I talk in the 60-80# LESS and that is a minimum.. that is still heavy but can live with it.

With a turbo you will be able to stand it up like an M-8....yes there are many pluses to a 2-smoke..I too could do more on a light over powered 2-smoke..but I like the quiet and the turn the key and the no smell and leave the wrench at home...too much... for the lighter sled..just sweat alot more with my yammie.. :exc:

Have you looked at the G-Force Yamacharger? I think Randy Swenson is supposed to be testing one on an Apex MTX at Yamafest, hopefully he will report back if not I will contact him again (got a pm from him on Snowest that he will let me know)....

I think as they say above, put more money into lighter everything and see that you have maximum weight transfer. Also thinks that you should look over the attack angle of the track. The trenching on Yammies is because high attack angle and lots of ski-pressure. Reduce that...

You have to drop the rear attach on the tamer by 1.25 to 1.5 of an inch and suck up the limiter strap to reduce the approach angle and get some weight transfer with the stock power else it will trench.
Mine is so close to the late model 8 hundrets it is not worth thinking about.

What is everyones take on a 15" track on the apex going to either the new single ply mav or the power claw I could save 10-15 lbs over the extreme

At the elevations most of us mtn riders are at I highly doubt the Yamacharger is going to be enough boost and corresponding hp that the cost would be worth it. A guy would be far better off to pick up a used stage one kit from MPI for the small difference in price over the Yamacharger in my opinion.
My sled is almost stock (other than the super), I have a lightweight battery, lightweight parking brake, and I've removed the rear rack. With only 10lbs of boost I still love my sled. Sure its heavy on hardpack days, but its still fun, and on deep days it is unbelievable. Basically I'm saying you don't have to go crazy with boost and l/w parts to have an enjoyable Yamaha sled. Keep the boost low, spend some time making it handle light and turn the key and ride. Its how I've enjoyed the last 4 years on my Apex.

Power claw all out works----no mater what save the extra pounds even if you go extreme and go 15 wide that is what I runn right now and it works
well for me.

YES....track flat out works!
I was going every where the REV 8's were going yesterday in 2 ft. of powder and even a few places they weren't! The Powerclaw track rocks! No matter what elevation you ride your still getting 25 H.P. gain by going to the G-Froce charger....not sure how the TS skid works but keep dialing it until it's right and I think the wider track and harder lugs are to agressive for the stock apex.....mine is so much better since the switch and it's much easier to spin around on the hil now.

Typically you lose a few lbs of boost going up in elevation .

clarification
you loose H.P. with elevation but the impeller is still turning and making that boost....right?

Re: clarification
It will still be turning and making some boost, but doesn't the G-Force only make like 2 pounds of boost?
When I go from the lake next to my house (4800 ft) up to where I like to ride (7000 + ft) I usually lose 2-3 pounds of boost on my gauge. This is why most guys say turbos are better than supers at high altitude.
For high elevation mountain riding I just don't see how it makes sense to spend so much money for so little gain. A used MPI stage one kit is usually about $3000, isn't the G-Force like $2200. If you are going to spend the money at least get the HP.
How is the powerclaw track on braking, especially on steep descents? I have the option to repair a camo extreme with a couple torn windows, but am intrigued by the powerclaw too.

Powderclaw has my vote! The Yamacharger has been shown on paper (web-site) to build 20hp (at the track) at low elevation. The rule of thumb for horspeower loss due to elevation is close to 3% for every 1000' of elevation because there is less oxygen per cubic inch of air. At 7000" you lose 21% on any internal combustion motor. Yeah, I know it sucks but there it is. Good luck.
