I posted this in the phazer section, but no useful replies. The sled has 62 kilometers on it, bought it in december. went to start it last week and got a code 15 and 84. The idle and throttle cable are within spec, and after checking the diagnostic, it was showing 0 to 70 instead of 18 to 100. The 2007 machines had adjustments for their sensors, but the 2008 is a 2 bolt unit with no visible adjustments.
So my question is, is this adjustable, or are they a 140 dollar throwaway item?

I am not sure what you are telling us.

What specific Voltage measurements did you take and on which wires. Was the sled running or not.

If you have a Zero volts on the TPS Input and Return, the TPS could be good and you are not getting the signal from the ECU. If you have Zero volts on the TPS Return, but have 5 VDC on the TPS Input, then you have a bad TPS. If you get 5 VDC on the TPS ground, then you have a bad ground.

If you loosen the TPS mounting bolts, be sure to match mark the TPS to the Throttle Bodies before you loosen the bolts, just in case it is adjustable.

It is possible that the '08s do not have an adjustment. Shop around, some suppliers are providing some good discounts from the List Price. (e.g. Port Yamaha)

Sorry, when you are in diagnostic mode 01 , it says in the manual your readings should be between 18-100. these numbers are displayed where the rpms usually are. But mine starts at 0 and peaks at 70. These readings are from the self diagnostic settings, not a volt meter.

O.K. So to test the TPS you measure the voltage going to it, the voltage from it and the connection to the ground. That way you can confirm that the TPS is in fact the problem. The problem could also be the ECU. But if you confirm the TPS is bad, then you can figure the ECU is good. No sense going to the dealer and spending $140 for a TPS when it is the ECU that is the problem or visa versa.

Do you need detailed TPS Testing instructions? They are in the Tech Manual. You may have to refer to the Wiring Diagram to determine which wires are the input, return and ground.

I think I have a decent handle on it, but I forgot my multi-meter at work. I will update any findings on this after I get my meter, so any one else will have a starting point. Thanks Len

Just tryin' to help you have some confidence when you plunk down those $ on the parts counter.

Checked it with a meter, and the TPS is faulty. The dealer said it was the first one they have changed. Part is still back-ordered after 11 days, they finally robbed one of a new machine to replace mine.

One thing I recommend is for people to try the diagnostic modes on their machines, as I could not fix the problem, but at least I knew exactly what it was.
