Tightening studs- How tight?

Thats exactly what my studs looked like just below the track i used blue loctite as well! If we get half the snow we did last year well still be in for a heck of a season! There calling for -1 celsuis at nights were getting close G-D let you know when the snow flies!!

I asked Woody's if the reccomended using Loctite, I told them I was using the big nuts, and they said no need to because of the nyloc insert. Then again would some extra insurance be such a bad thing? Screwed, Glued, and Triple Reinforced at the seams!

Exactly it's just extra insurance. With the Nyloc nut and a steel stud probably not needed at all as the corrosion will actually help lock it togather. It's your choice, it may or may not help, but Icertainly don't think that it hurts anything.

I also just remembered that when we stud tracks, we always torque them down then within about 15 min. (if useing Lock-tite) go back and re-torque as the rubber in the track has probably formed and can be further tightened. Basically do a few rows then go back a few rows and torque again. Seems to work.

Good Advice here. I want to do mine this fall. I was supprised at the cost to do my ATTAK with 162 down the center. I keep seeing $ 450 for everything..needed. Woddys Gold Diggers,Templet,Drilling tool,Backers.

Typically if you go to the snowmobile shows that are happening over the next few months you can get better deals. It's not cheap, but it's just one of those things that need (IMO) to be done. Spend now and get good ones, or spend more later getting good ones.

I used stud boy plastic double backers ~ they say 5 lbs ft. I just tightened them till the stud was flush with the inside of the track.

Cost me almost 600.00 last spring to do mine with 192 1.450 SS with Red Aluminum backers and tall nuts.

Sorry for the off topic post but I was wondering how the colored aluminum backers hold up, I've only used natural before, but thinking off adding some color this time around.

So far I only have a couple of rides but no problems yet. I can't see there being any difference in colored vs plain for strength.

I was thinking of the color, do they get scuffed and scratched? Or wear off?

I ran over a bit of rough stuff last year and mine still look new

They rub off in two seasons, even in perfect conditions. When they rub, they dont look that bad, but they do start chipping. I have had two tracks with these backers and same result, both square woodys alum. One was a 136" ripsaw with 108 studs, then the other one was another ripsaw 136" wih 162 studs.

This year, im all natural alum!
