MadMax
TY 4 Stroke Master
I'm not going to lose any sleep over this 010 line-up........ "BECAUSE" I don't think I need a new sled.......... YeeeeeeHaaaaa.. After testing all the 09s last winter and finding out I love my 05 vector much better...These new and far more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ sleds can wait... Yup.. I'm sooooooo happy with my 05 it's no comparision. I like my sitting position, hood that opens and spark-plugs that I can see without taking everything off.. Life is good.... Maybe in 011.. MM. P.S. Hand warmers that realllllllllllly work.

This line-up was finalized almost a year ago when the economy was good. Although i like my '06 APEX, I was hoping to upgrade next year. I'm only dissapointed that i might leave YAMAHA. We'll see & I hope not...

drifter said:Seriously, it is so disappointing to read the posts in here. I know snowmobilers are a demanding and discriminating breed, but seriously people, in our current economy, aren't some of you being a little harsh? For Yamaha to tool up to build anything new would cost a ton of money, along with the added expenses of roll out and marketing. People are losing their homes and jobs, dealers are closing, the economy is not good right now. And some of you whine about no new model?
Not only did Yamaha improve on some key items, but also released new models in areas that needed them. If you go buy another brand because of nothing "new", then you obviously need some sort of false image and do not research nor care about the quality and design of the product. You say Ski-Doo has a great 4 stroke? Go ride it. On paper, yeah it is lighter. But throw a leg over it and ride it. Then compare it to Yamaha. The Yamaha sleds feel lighter, handle far better, and out perform EVERY 4 stroke and most 2 strokes in the industry. If you haven't riden a Doo, Cat or Polaris, you better before you decide. Plus if you want sound of a Massy Ferguson, then the others may be right for you.
Before you get too excited to jump brands, or jump all over this post, wait until March, and see what the other 3 Manufacturers DON'T release. Then come back and edit the whine out of your posts. I think the changes to Yamaha's line-up are great and a result of listening to the customer and making improvements to an already industry leading line of high performance snowmobiles. Improvements timely and necessary in the current state of the economy. Good luck to any of you who switch brands, I hope you make the right decision.
I'm with ya Drifter. Sure we all would like to see an all new APEX or an Apex turbo that rocks, but hey the current Apex sure seems to hold it's own well with what's out there. So far the new Z1 turbo hasn't panned out exactly like everyone surmised. I'm sure Cat will make improvements.....but for now it is what it is. Just think, being the current Apex is 150 HP, what would it be like with say 10-15 more HP without a turbo?? I wouldn't mind seeing a young kids sled too, but what the heck. Just buy a used one for that I guess. The new FI Vector looks like a nice sled. The video on the other thread looks like it perfoms well. That could end up being a great seller for the mainstream trail riders. Personally I am glad they didn't scrap the Apex design for an all Nytro type lineup. The Nytro has it's place but is not for everyone.

What's all done to it to get the extra ponies?

Airbox mod, Mine has a three degree timing key but you can run Ulmer's ignition module and i have there PC111. I am running stock clutching with one gram ground off of heel and center rivet. It comes out and settles after hookup at about 10,500 and gain's to 10,800 to 10,900 on top. You will really notice throttle response, low end and midrange Gaines as well as topend. Ulmer's clutch kit also work's very well. I would say i am now putting around five sled length's on a box stocker in 600' if on good hard pack. Traction is key with the extra out of hole power. kviper

That sounds respectable. Sounds likes Ulmer's are doing their homework. They'd be the top guys to buy from for a Yamaha IMHO. I think a Cobra track would be a good addition to a short track Apex. I have one on my Viper and it really hooks up hard on hardpack and is much better in loose snow too............ah snow, where do you find that now???

No snow here any more either! I don't know on the Cobra some say they are loosing top end. If i do any thing different with track i may go with an ice ripper XT, Much lighter being a single ply and not having stud hole's or stud's to do tunnel damage would be nice. Mike knapp says it will add about five mph top end, You will just not have as good of hook on ice. Allan Ulmer has done his home work and is very willing to help. I would highly recommended! kviper

My Cobra is not clipped every window and weighs 33 lbs. I am out to lunch if I lost top end being the only time I rode it the secondary clutch bushing was binding and not letting my clutches shift out and has since been replaced........but now there is no snow to test.
