To make an 08 nytro work correctly????

I was thinking of getting an 08 fx nytro at a pretty good price right now. What does it take to get these things right? I was thinking of sending the shocks to hygeer, putting slydogs on it and machining the ball joints down 2.5mm like described in one of the posts. This should staighten most of it out right?
 
A lot of it depends on what sled you are coming from too. What do you want your sled to do? All things you mentioned are going to help...but you are also talking 700-1000 in cash....
 
I've made HUGE improvements to the handling to my sled, and haven't spent a dime.
IMO, there is alot to be done with simple adjustments, and I havent heard of anybody outriding the suspension on their Nytro's yet. If you have a standard model and are of the larger variety, you may benifit from some spring and/or valving changes, but if you have an RTX, I think you sould be able to adjust it to whatever style you like.
The '08's do tend to be twitchy to say the least, but simple mods will cure it without spending money.
I don't have any aftermarket parts on mine yet, and havent ridden one with different skis yet, but you can make the stock stuff just fine with alittle work.
 
I am coming from a Rev and I was told by a suspension guy to get the non-rtx if I want to mess with the shocks. They are easier to work with. Also, if I am paying 71-7300 for a new sled, I can handle 700 in mods to make it work right.
 
It all depends on the kind of riding you do. If you like jumping, ditch-banging, and rough stuff, get the RTX. A little off-trail here and there should be done on a standard. Unlike the Apex RTX, the Nytro RTX is a true big-bump sled.
I am having a hard time deciding what modifications to make to my Nytro, just because I like it so much! I've made air pressure adjustments to the shocks, flipped and shimmed the ski rubbers and thats it! I love looking for the roughest crap out there, and I always try to jump anything I can, and I have rarely bottomed, and it stays very controllable the harder I push it.
Buy based on your primary ride conditions, period.
 
i bought the std fx i did have to have it revalved in the rear only, Hygear did it and its awsome, i shimmed the skis and that was good but i thought the steering was heavy i have simmons on it now, and im happy with it i weigh 215 with gear and i ride mostly groomed trails, but i have jumped it and its good with the suspension done, next year ill have the front done just because the rear made it so much better i wonder how good it could be, if you are paying 7300 thats 2000 less than i paid for mine you should buy it thats a great deal, spend a little to set it up

You have too much downforce on the skis my good fix was twistiing the center shock (front shock on rear skid) up 1 inch from stock setting, this was perfect for trail and ditch banging, best sled i've ever rode in the ditch and trial once i had it set up. Almost reminds me of a polaris now, i am 230 and have 96 studs, and c&a skis shimmed on the rtx.
 
Be patient when setting these things up. There are tons of small tweaks that will yield different results, but the biggest thing to remember is to make small adjustments, and only make one at a time. You can easilly get way out of whack and really be frustrated. Sometimes the least likely adjustment can yield the biggest improvements.
 
a couple simple changes on my sled improved the trail riding a lot. I still want to make improvements to tighten it up, but i'm taking my time to ride it and see what i want to do, one change at a time, doing everything at once is definetly when you get frustrated and overwhelmed like Nate007 said.
 
What is meant by shimming the skis? How exactly do you do this?

I totally agree with you about making subtle changes but if some things are as bad as people say, I am ok when making some changes to make it right. One of the biggest improvements i made to my rev was a set of USI skis. LOVED them, so I would probably put skis on every sled. The one i rode was a little twitchy, so I would like to correct that. Other than that, I live in Chicago, so there isn't much testing around here. When I go with people, i hate to make them wait for me while I fuss with it. I will make little changes but it isn't something I could do on a tuesday night out of my garage! I wish!!!

I have the RTX and finally have the front end as close to perfect as I think possible, to the point where i cannot imagine the 09's handling any better. I have slydogs, bergstrum triple points with ski savers shimed 3/8" and toed out 3/8", fox shocks with nextech resi's set at 70 psi, milled the top tie rods 2.5 mil and had the lower ball joints and a arms replaced under warranty ( temp fix) and this past weekend was the best it has ever been. You can ride it at any speed using one hand, no darting at all, no tracking, through the stutters or big bumps with no movement and the cornering is flat, true and predictable. My only dissappointment is it took 2500 miles and the whole winter to get here!! I have Ohlins coming this week for the front end which I probable would not have ordered if the front end was working this well several weeks ago, the fox shocks with resi's are decent now that the front end is correct. I think the shocks were only a small bit of the issue. The biggest fix bar none is the 2.5mil shave on the upper tie rods, it's a totally different machine and I love it ........ :-o again !!!
