The ring with the smallest ring end gap (EDIT: when looking at it laying on the table, not installed in the cylinder) is to be placed on top. Second ring shall be the one with the largest ring end gap. I installed Wiseco 2913XA rings on my 10:1 Wiseco pistons, and I believe that the brown ones goes on top, smallest ring end gap.

According to my Wiseco catalog the top ring is alloy steel, ferrox coated(whatever that means) chrome faced. The second ring is cast iron phosphate coated, tapered face. I looked at some old rings that I took out and the cast one has a N on it an the letters or markings on the rings should go up. Make sure to check your end gap and set them to the middle of the range that the manual says for each ring. I set mine at .012 the first time and siezed the piston 1 1/2 miles down the trail, Ken.
