Had TORS problem over the weekend (lots of deep ). Bypassed the TORS and the sled would not idle and was sputtering badly below 7000 rpm.
Ran the diagnostic on the TPS last night. It was way off. Closed throttle reading around 60...its supposed to be like 17. Adjusted it as far as possible and could only get it down to around 30. Open throttle was like 109. Will order a new switch I guess. Boy they dont make it easy to work on that TPS with the tamper proof screws. Where do I get one of those fancy torque bits with the hole in the tip?
Also had fouled plugs. I assume due to running too rich because of the TPS. Or maybe from the TORS acting up. Hard to tell when everything goes wrong at once.
Has anyone gotten the TPS replaced on warranty?

Same thing happened to mine...read 82 when throttle was closed. My plugs never fouled though...Kept er pinned all day and just shut it off when not putting around. Need a saftey torx to get it off....snap on or Mac should have it....pretty cool how you can diagnose the problem hey??

Yeah, thats how I got home the other day, just kept her pinned. Found the tamper proof torx at Schuck's Auto Supply. Pulled the TPS off, removed the white tab and rubber seal and found tons of water in it (beat it in the palm of your hand shaft side down). We are thinking they get full of moisture, then freeze over night, then you take off the next day and open up the throttle while still frozen and screw up the spring inside the sensor.
Diagnostics are way cool. Dealer said they would warranty, but I have to let them do the work. Guess I will be down for the weekend.

Good info. Did your dealer contact a the tech guys to tell them of your finding? There has been some issuses with the tps on the apex. That might help them. Have had some test good at the shop, but read out of spec when the sled is hot. Sounds like water may also effect the tps at warmer temps also?

I carried the TPS around with me all day yesterday trying to dry it out. Didn't have any luck, ran the diagnostic again last night and was getting around 80 at closed throttle. Worse than it was before.
I think there is still a lot of moisture in it, so it is not clear if the moisture is throwing it off, or if freezing screws up the mechanism inside..or maybe both?

OK, put a new TPS in ran great, but it went haywire on me again yesterday after only about 200miles. Should I keep changing these things out like $140 light bulbs, or is there some other problem that is causing TPS to fail. I don't think this one had a chance to get moisture in it like the old one.
The new one screwed up after a loooong hard climb, so maybe heat was a factor like rideblue mentioned?

any real solution to this problem
any new info on this problem ? I think there should be some better solution for this. Can you cover it up or wrap it in parafilm or something to kep moisture out ? What did the dealer sya happened the second time with only a few miles ?

I didn't take it in to the dealer. They offered to warranty it, but I didn't want to miss any riding so I had one overnighted from an out-of-state dealer who had them in stock. This way I will have a spare after I get the warranty done. Sounds like there have been quite a few go bad.
