I was wondering if there's a difference between the 2006 and 2007 upper idler wheels on the Apex. I have 1000 miles and lots of track rub on the upper shock, I was wondering if the 2007 wheels are bigger this way they would give more clearance in regards to the track rubbing on the shock.

Just looking for some feedback.

I can't say for certain, but I have heard that the '07s do have larger wheels to provide clearance. Ulmer racing also sells an anti rub kit, which is what I plan on putting in my ER

I will measure 2007 vs 2006 upper idler wheels this weekend and post findings. To my knowledge the 2007's are the same as 2006.

I am gonna tell my dealer I want warranty on my Mono shock...holy cow, it's really worn!! Gotta get an ULMER fix kit!!

I was having a conversation with someone on here a while back about track rub.
They said the wheels on an 07 were larger.
When they told me the size i measured my wheels on my 06 and found that they were the same size wheel.

Go with the anti rub kit. cheap & easy fix and you dont have to worry about mixing and matching parts.

You may want to do a search on this topic. Instead of assumming it was manufactured wrong, there may be something else wrong. On other posts, there are several examples of problems found that caused the track rub. It could be that the wheels end up being a bandaide to cover up symptoms of the real problem.

Track Rub

On the track rub issue, Yamaha considers it normal from what I have been told. They will not warranty a track with wear on the INSIDE.
(I have NEVER experienced any wear on the inside of a snowmobile track before)

My dealer has inspected my sled and everything is as it should be.

My sled has minimal rub marks, but I have seen pics of some that are BAD. (Track is not studded, in case anyone thinks it relates to studs)

The Ulmer kit seems to be the best solution to date, and at a reasonable price.

ALSO-just checked Yamaha's online parts site and the part #'s for both '06 & '07 Apex (ER) upper track wheels(either side of the shock mount) are the same part #.

Lenn you are correct there could be other issues that are causing his problem like bent parts track too tight or loose etc.
From what i have seen about 98% of the people with this thack rub problem dont actually have any bent parts etc. the track is simply too close to the shock and contacts it.
with that said yes i agree you should always look for other issues first and rule out any other possibilities.
