Track/slide drag

How are the Dupont slides doing? Did they make a difference? I'm tempted to try a set from day 1. Also do I understand that you have the 4 wheels rear plus an additional set of idlers? I think/hope that the sno-x track on my machine will come fully clipped

I have the duponts on mine with four wheels in place of the bar that holds the limiter straps in and I added two moe on the outside of the rail in the middle of the existing wheels. And I didn't notice any wear since I did all that.

What would be nice (not trying to be a dick here) is if someone actually posted just what was actually used.

IE 6639-808 wheels from Cat= 2ea 5.63" wheels with mounts. Cat also offers 5.35" wheels that it says will offer increased performance.

I find it quite frustrating to figure out just what works and what does not.

If it was earlier in the season I would have had part numbers still but I don't anymore. I have the 4th wheel kit plus 2 sets of extra idler wheels, 6 wheels total counting the 4th wheel kit. My stock slides were completely shot within 500 miles. Duponts were instantly better and haven't worn a bit in 1800 miles. Sled roles very freely now. I believe the wheels you need are the 5.63"

Lol..sorry, I had a post with all of my wheels and there size. I don't remember off hand what I used. The ones with the limiter straps are 3 1/2 and I put on a stock set. The 5.35 I think. They were the same size as stock. Just put the in a different spot.

Where did you get your extra wheels? Did they come with spacers and hardware?

When putting DuPont hifax on my ltx 137, noticed they need trimming , so I figured turn them around and cut off the other end. Then I redrilled and countersunk the hole, and beveled the sides like the original. Now Vespal covers almost the WHOLE slide rail.

my 2016 RTX has wheels outside the rails and 2 inside just behind the front shock I notice a lot of them have only 2 wheels on the outside ,maybe the 137"come that way ?
Anyhow it seems like if I put cable scratchers on wheels they will be to far back ? ive got them on skis now. Tons of drag for sure . Is there an aftermarket bigger wheel kit like there is for Apex/vector ?Ill be adding a set to rear axle for sure and fully clipping track. looks like the only place to add a set would be at the limiter strap on a 129"

The scratchers should put enough into skid that it fills it so snow gets in front of the scratchers. On the 129 the only place even stock slides wear is right at the bend in front of the forward most wheel. Duponts take care of that but even stock slides go a long time. I worried also and tried those little yamaha wheels right at bend and one broke off at bearing in second ride so they dont work. If using scratchers just get them forward enough that spray makes it into the track and they will do the job. The wear at front bend can be minimized with a tight track. The wear comes from the track bunching up at front at high speeds. So tight track for top speed and loose for launch and short drags. This bunching is really visible if you watch someone going 80-100mph. Old 12-13 Cat rails had wheels right there but is no way to mount them on our rails.

interesting I was going to loosen the track for more speed/mpg as it is extremely hard to move it . update : what I meant to say was mine has 4 wheels up forward outside the rails and two inside the rails > I see many maybe 137 ? that only have 2 outside the rail. Scratchers on ski doesn't seem to put much snow in the track . ive gotta have my wife ride it so I can observe where its actually spraying

I'm curious if anyone who has added a M-10 orM-20 could chime in with a drag comparison , any difference ?

yes did read that about the extrovert drivers , very interesting . I remember back in the day the introverts where actually called Involute drive and it was touted as a performance improvement. My 73 Chaparral firebird 400 had involute and it was promoted that way . Some early extrovert sleds went with 1 driver in the middle ,not sure if they where trying to reduce drag. I'm not going to bother with clutching until I get it rolling better as I bet the RPM actually comes up with less drag.

We have two. A ltx and rtx with m-20. Although the tracks do seem to roll easier on the hoist we haven't seen a lot more top end or fuel mileage but much better ride and handling.
