Traction help

I'm having a real problem getting my sled to hook-up. I have an Apex GT and here's my set-up;
-Stock track w/ 168 Woody's Golddiggers 1.325"
-Control arm set 1 notch from Max. on spanner wrench
-Front shocks set relatively soft
-Limiter strap not adjusted from factory (not sure which hole it's in)
-Stock clutch set in 3-3 (soon to be Ulmer Stage II)
Sometimes (very seldom) I can hook up good but most often I just spin at take off. Most of the time I can make up lost ground ground when I hit the nitrous but I've seen several Apex that hook-up right out of the hole. I'm look for any suggestions you guys might have. Thanks.
 
Pull the straps up a hole or two, you are probably getting alot more ski lift than anything. you want everything going forward, not up. Also get some studs in the outside lugs, if you don't have them there already.

If you pull up the straps a hole or two wouldn't there be less of the track making contact with the ground therefore less traction? I would think to loosen the limiter straps for more traction. Am I thinking backwards?
 
OTB, Studs maybe too short??? 1.450 mega bites with 144 down middle and 24 outside for 168 total. Set transfer all the way. I actually went a few turns past max...not much, but a little. I'm also going to tighten up the front stap 1 hole. Right now, I've got my ulmer stage II dialed in and have awesome hook up. Studded on the outside helped quite a bit.
 
If you leave the limiter at stock setting, your skis will probably be a foot in the air, depending on what your preload is on the front shocks. You want all available power to be moving you forward, not lifiting you up. Suck up the straps a little bit, and keep the ski lift to a few inches. Stiffening up the front shocks will also help to reduce ski lift, while maintaining transfer. Pulling the straps up also helps to reduce the angle of attack under acceleration.
 
Thanks for the replies. I took the strap up one hole and softened the front shocks a little more. I am studded down the outside and will get the Ulmer clutch in this week and give it a try and see how it does.
