-Headed up evening of Wed. Jan 11, just beating the snowstorm.
-Rode 10-12 hour days Jan. 12, 13, 14.
-Based out of Boulder Junction, WI. Longest excursions were to Hurley, WI and Eagle River, WI.
Trail conditions were widely variable, and reports out of the area are accurate. Near towns and in heavily ridden switchbacks, there is plenty of ice, snirt, and rocks. There are also great conditions in much of the trail system. Traffic was low on Thursday and Friday, and trails were 'excellent,' especially after being the 1st on after the groomers, when it could be described as 'magic-carpet-like.'
Saturday, traffic increased heavily and by the end of the day we were experiencing a lot of ice; 6" Studboy Shapers were clattering and scraping right across the surface of some turns.
Almost no bare road riding except for crossings. Slides were barely touched the entire weekend in terms of wear, so that should give you an idea of the overall excellence of trail condition, even with the ice.
Conditions near and around Hurley were fantastic. I highly encourage riding in that area if you can get that far; it should hold up just fine.
Just a wonderful three days of riding!! Met a lot of very friendly riders, and clearly everyone was having a blast. As wide a variety of machines as you could ever hope to see.
