My new Trail Tank is on its way and can't wait to get it. I was wondering if anyone had some pics of how they were finishing the edges of the plastic that comes down the centre of the tank?
With the black side pieces now removed in place of the tank it looks like you have to cut the sides of the centre piece to finish it off nice.
Is that what everyone is doing, or are you just adding some edge protector along the sides?
Just curious as to what everyone is doing before mine gets here and I'm wondering which way to go.
Thanks.
P.S. I'm absolutely loving my 2012 XTX. 5500km so far this year without a hitch.
Box stock except for a set of Woodie dual carbides i put on before the first ride and a set of ice scratchers. :sled1:

I am afraid I don't have a pic.....
But on the centre piece I trimmed the edges and left a small lip and got a piece of black windshield trim from canadian tire to hide the edge. It looks great.

On the side cowls I cut the black lip that used to tuck into the old panels of the tank using a dremmel.

You can't tell this tank is an upgrade now.

You'll love the range that sled will give you now.

There is a little nub on the inside of the side panels that I also shaved off so the panel sits flush on the tank.

I left mine as is. I didn't cut any tabs. I had to rig a different connection for the tank bag and that pretty much covers up everything. Be sure you watch your wiring and tank vent when installing. I ended up rerouting my vent as it got pinched. You will love the extra miles you can go now.

I didn't trim mine in case i ever installed the original tank back on.

watch out for your gas gauge connector right side as it will can undone when moving your tank around to put it on. also loosen up your steering loop and push it ahead as far as possible. try to remove as much gas as possible when removing tank, way easier to put back in as it balloons a bit when out of the machine.

you love having it

Well my new tank arrived today. I installed it tonight along with replacing the exhaust donuts and changing the plugs while I had it apart. The job went really well. The tank fit perfect all my fasteners worked fine can't say enough good about it. I was skeptical about the fit and finish after reading some of these posts but I am more than happy.

Look's like it turned out sweet. I have been eyeing those tanks up to I'm just a little concered about the motor running hot because the tank is close to the motor. Does anyone have any input on that?

I was hoping to switch to a Viper next season but the money just isn't there....so I will be going this route for sure

I did a small homemade rad relocate mod that seems have eliminated any temp lights I got before (note: I also have MOUNTAIN TECH vented dash and OFY steering relocate) OFT relocate is required to do this, vented is not but I thinks it is half the solution.

Thanks, I didn't realize you need the steering relocate although I was planning on getting one anyways.
