I see Trail Tank has a bulletin out about leaking problems. I assume they have the problem solved and am looking at adding the bigger tank. For any of you that has one, how do your side panels fit against the tank? Did you do anything to secure the panels after trimming off the tabs that went into the stock tank shroud? Any comments on the thumb strews that replace the quarter turn fasteners?
What's the old saying? The only time you have too much gas is when you're on fire!
Thanks.

I have a trail tank but I have not installed it yet. My dealer did give me new gaskets/o-rings to go with it, supposedly from Trail Tank to resolve this issue.
Your picture makes me want to hang myself. I had 600 km on mine this time last year. Not a flake of snow here yet.

Well, don't fret too much. We have plenty of snow but its -35*F in the parking lot right now. At least the wind isn't blowing!
Where'd you get the picture of my mother-in-law?

Gibby,
Thanks, but I know what they look like and I overwhelmingly prefer clear tanks. What about the other questions?

Thanks, that's what I was hoping for. If my plastic doesn't sit flat I'll add some self-stick velcro to hold it. I was most worried about the thumb screws, especially with the added side deflectors on the tall windshield. It looks like Trail Tank is a few weeks out at least with the replacement tank issue anyway. I looked again at your pics. I see you chose the black tank, that's why I missed it the first time. I'll be using clear.
It looks like a good product and Trail Tanks is acting like a responsible company. I'll be a customer very soon.
Thanks again.

Just installed my Trail Tank today. I'm not exactly thrilled with the fitment, I had a hell of a time getting the shroud to line up with the tank holes. I have the knee pads on the sled so that hides some of the issues. All in all it is well worth the minor cosmetic issues to have 3 more gallons of fuel.

i think the main thing to installing is that you get the tank to slide all the way forward in the slotted holes, side panels fit much better if you do

Put in our re-tooled tanks that fit with the MTX tunnel cooler. Very nice fit, it is important to get it slid as far forward as possible. This makes all the pieces fit together better. Nice turnout, couldn't be happier with the way the tanks turned out for us...

I'm glad you have one to put in. Here is a brief history of my trailtank experience:
Early fall - order Trail tank and attempt to install. It fits like garbage on my MTX and no amount of pulling tugging or hammering on i will make it fit. Observe that it is hitting on cooling lines. Gas leaks from around fuel pump using the provided O-ring. I attempt numerous times to reseat the o-ring with no luck. I call Trail tank. Any and all possible fit issues and leaks are denied. I am treated like and idiot and assured that I am installing it incorrectly. I go back to the OEM O-ring and leaks magically stop. I report that back to Trailtank to be told they have many many tanks installed with the provided o-ring so I was clearly doing something wrong. I express my concern for rubbing etc with the incorrect fit of the tank and possible fire danger. I am assured there is no problem and to force it in place.
11/11/08 Email received acknowledging that the tank does not fit on an MTX properly and that the provided O-ring leaks around the fuel pump. It seems like I'm not such an idiot after all. New tanks are promised the first week of December.
12/6/08 Email received saying I will get a new tank soon they are in final test fitting.
12/14/08 Email received requesting my shipping address.
12/22/08 Email received that went to all customers saying that they will be closed 12/23/08 - 1/5/09. Those who have been contacted about there tank shipping will receive it but everyone else will have to wait till they return. My tank never shows.
1/6/09 I send an email requesting status of my replacement tank.
Many have said that they admire Trailtank for stepping up to replace the defective tanks. For that I give them credit. What has me upset is the treatment I received when I (very politely) tried to express to them that there was a problem. I was truly treated like an idiot. All of my concerns including safety issues were immediately dismissed and no consideration was given what so ever to the possibility of there actually being a problem. Yet, it turns out that I was 100% correct. I really hope no one gets a leak that injures them or destroys their sled while they wait for a corrected tank to arrive.

My experience has been 100 % positive with Trail Tank. Seth has been superb with us. I would say try again, maybe you just got someone on a bad day??
We have had no leaks, fit is great and the tanks have been everything I'd had hoped they would be.
Give them another try; your experience I think will be for the better.
