So I have an MTX 153 and For next year I was thinking about buying a used track and trimming it down to 1.5" or so so I can take it on more trail rides. I know why don't I just buy a trail sled but I can't afford a new sled and I really like my nytro. Has anyone do this with there mountain sled? I will keep my mountain track for when I know I'm going to be in the deep stuff.

I trimmed down my 1.75 to 1.5. I sharpened the back edge of a sawzall blade and used that. Worked slick. I tried a fine tooth blade but there was too much blade chatter.I used a piece of 1.5 angle iron as a guide clamped with two vice grips.

My buddy did it to an Apex Mountain track and loves it. I think he took it down to about 1.75 and says its great. If you want to do it right, get the dirtbike tire hot knife called "Knobby Knife" and it will cut it clean and smooth with minimal effort. The Knobby Knife is basically a very hot soldering iron with a sharp metal blade on the end. Google it

I run a 153 x2 xtx converted and just run scratchers on trail. Works great. But I also have a cat skid so slilder wear is less.

Thanks for all the input. I will be buying a used track and cutting the lugs down. I will also be running scratchers when on the trails so it should stay cool. I'm not to concerned about the slider wear as they are cheap and easy to replace.

We run the dupont sliders here and they last long time. Buddy have 2000 miles on his set on a nytro 144 1.25 and another friend has 2500 on his 144 x2 nytro. I have only 300 on mine but that's just cause I just put set on with my cat 153 skid swap
