(03 tRX1) Ok so I had a battery problem that caused a nitrous backfire. It blew the intercooler off the motor but was not very loud nor did it do any apparent damage. BUT, now there is a tick in the motor when idling. Sounds like it is coming from the pto side cylinder/valves. Makes me wonder if it is in the gear reducer and just sounds like the motor but I dont think that is the case. The sled is not running well. Today Im changing plugs. One of the plugs(cylinder 3) had the bottom 2 threads mushed, dont know if that is related but will be running a tap through it today to clean it up. Had my mechanic check valve clearance last night and all were within tolerance according to him. He says very unlikely that any valve is bent after checking them. He is having me put the motor back together so he can hear it. Anyone else have this happen or any ideas on what may have gone wrong would be appreciated. tia :exc:

Sounds like you lost a rod bearing, these little motors Tick instead of Rap like a big motor.

using a technique where you raise a piston and then pull down on the piston by turning the clutch you can push on top of the piston to feel for play in the bearing. ...and now a moment of silence for my pto side rod bearing..... :drink: :o| :drink: #$%&*

(or possible wrist pin bearing, we'll have to see)

Dear Mr. freak were so sorry for you loss, let us offer our condolences to your precious loved one.

To give you some motivation i pulled my engine the 2nd time in 2 hrs and 48 minutes...beat it! LOL

Good luck and I feel your pain.

Well that motor treated you right for a lot of years. Especially holding together when you melt every spark plug in the motor from running pump and high bost, throwing new plugs in and running it for how many more years? :4STroke:

ya I guess I did get a little careless cause it "was" so bulletproof. Although after I melted the plugs I did check compression and all was good. The bearing may have been going out for a while but it still ran good enough to win the shootout. I think the nitrous backfire may have done it or just finished it off cause it definately started then. :yam: :4STroke: :nos :die LaLaLa ;)!

I actually planned on a tear down this year just out of maintenance so this is really not that bad, its just forcing me to do it. For those who dont know the Freakmobile I have had the wastegate disabled for 2 years and have prob run 200lbs of nitrous through the motor, most of which was under full boost. My sled runs 22lbs (at 10k') and a 2 stage Nitrous system. This is the first motor damage I have sustained. I had a new batcap 300 battery in there, which I have since decided is not enough for my sled, and when it died it led to a simple mistake that caused the system to fill with nitrous and backfire. Shiz happens I guess... I now have the batcap 400 :drink:

I will bet its a pin broke.. what kinda piston ? we broke lots of them and sound like a tick.. rod knock is more than a tick..
that actually makes sense and would make me happy. We'll see. Wiseco piston.

wiseco, its a pin for sure.... wiseco has new pins out now make sure you get them and replace all of them.. do you have stock or carrillo rods if you have carrillo the sm end bushing will be shot, I have bushing in stock to fix them. but in needs to be bore to the right size, we can do that if you need or you will have to send it back to carrillo to get redone..

I have carillo rods. I will order the pins, do they warranty these? Ill contact you about fixing the rod. thanks for the info!

warranty rods

Hummm funny guy just like a few other guys i know Want me to warranty a turbo kit for life of sled after he runs big boost and 200 lbs NOS!!!
You made me laugh!!
Let me know what they say about warranty>>

Not that funny, if they built new pins it sounds like they know the other ones were weak. Wisecos are built for performance, not for driving grandma down the trail. And I was asking if they were warrantying them, I wasnt demanfing that they be warrantied.
