2015 Venture GT
I have recently purchased a new leftover 2015 Venture GT. I also have a 2014 Vector LTX. The tuner skis on the Venture had the runners with the most carbide on the outside of the skis. I assumed this was wrong from what I see on the Yamaha microfiche its suppose to be the most carbide on the inside of the skis. Also Scott Bergstrom has said this to me in the past. But I have seen a recent post on the HCS forums that owners have had better handling (less push/hooks up better) with the most carbide on the outside. They said 6" on out side and 4" inside. Has anyone ever tried it this way? Has someone tried it both ways? I know there are better skis out there but wanted to stick with the tuners for now at least.

Interesting question. My 2013 has tuners, they were installed at a very reputable dealer for the original owner. They put 6" on the outside and 4" on the inside. I ran it 3000 miles this winter like that, with no issues. I may try and reverse them next season and see if there's a difference.

Here's how I look at the placement of the carbide on the Tuner skis - if you ever watch after you turn on blacktop you will notice the ski tips in a manner that when you turn - the inside of the skis tips down and the outside tips up - if you go back and look at the blacktop you will see the inside carbide leaves a mark on the ground as it has the most pressure on it and the outside one doesn't leave a mark as when the outside of the ski tips up the outside carbide slightly lifts off the ground. With this in mind we recommend running the bigger carbide on the inside as it is doing more work than the outer one.

With that in mind that the outside carbide lifts slightly off the ground when you turn what if you would put a smaller diameter carbide on the inside and a bigger diameter on the outside? Would they both hook up then or would the outside one still be to far off the ground to be effective?

Logically the out side would still be off the ground so it wouldn't matter if there was 12" of carbide on the outside. It appears the outside carbide is there more to eliminate the darting and on my sled I had very little of that.

Take the Tuners off and put on a set of standard Yamaha skis (they are cheap) and put on any brand of Dually carbide on them. Sled will handle more predictably with the standard ski setup on them...IMO!

I was referring to the diameter (thickness) of the bar itself. Not how much carbide was on the runner.

Would that old standard ski work on a RS Vebtuee TF?Take the Tuners off and put on a set of standard Yamaha skis (they are cheap) and put on any brand of Dually carbide on them. Sled will handle more predictably with the standard ski setup on them...IMO!
