Hey, how a couple of questions for you guys...

With the barkers exhaust how far would you block the tunnel off? All the way to the back where the pipe comes out of the tunnel or just to the back of the exhaust can it self?

How thick of sheet would you use?

I am thinking about cutting thet heat sheild back and running the exhaust exposed. Shown where to possibly cut in the picture. Following the back shape of the seat... Think there will be any problem with this?

**the pictures are not mine, they are taken from the Barkers video**

Thanks,
Cameron

If I was going to do it, I would block it off from the rear of the sled, to about where your right knee is in the second picture. I think that would be far enough to stop a lot of icing, but also it would keep the snow from coming up and out of your tunnel too much.

It doesn't need to be very thick or strong, I would just get a sheet of aluminum about the same thickness as your tunnel.

I'm gonna probably be making a block off plate this fall too, and thats what I was planning on doing at least. Block off about half, maybe not quite half of the tunnel.

Id be very conscious of the fact that can gets very hot and is already prone to melting the plastic trim at the rear...
whats the purpose of cutting the heat shield back?
the tunnel close off panel is meant to keep the snow whipping off the tunnel from hitting the superheated can and vaporizing...and with the cold aluminum tunnel instantaneously coating and forming a pure ice block...however....some snow is needed to cool the inlet pipe / can even if the exhaust shield is cut back like you show...

if I can grasp what your after..Id do a part closeoff like a skinz plate...and I would do the following...

ceramic coat flat black the barker and the barkers tip...
at your line of demarkation instead of cutting the shield back....

drill a pattern of holes or have a machinist louver the heat shield in that area...

then ceramic coat the inside and out flat black

leave the black plastic end cap off...

sorrry i was not detailed but what i am planning is to run no rear plastic at all, and cut the heat sheild back to expose the exhaust and give a better look IMO... as for the tunnel block off i was thinking running it about to the back of the exhaust can...

ceramic coating the header pipe and exhaust would help. But that just turned a $20 project into a $300 project.

But if I had the money, I'd ceramic coat it for sure. At least the header pipe.

Barker Pipe

Would automotive header wrap work instead of ceramic coating on the header pipe?

Just a thought.

Heat Shield

Have cut back heat shield with no problems with heat at all.

What's with the Excell exhaust besides the sled in the wrapper. Are you switching exhaust?
