Tell your neighbour to go back to engineering school...! The stud protectors only job is to keep studded tracks away from the tunnel, the exhaust and the front heat exchanger. Nothing else. They are in no way part of the chassis structural rigidity. The way they are welded on and riveted on they add zero structural rigidity.
