Since the Apex Skid project is under way and parts are off to powder coat it was time to start another project I have read so much about, but never dared try.
Last night I powerwashed the trailer and a few toys. Then I rolled the Phazer in and started with a few test spots. Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish was the tool of choice.
I read on Hardcore sledder yesterday about microfiber cloths and sanding with 240, 500 and 1000 grit wet sandpaper. But I thought I would try this first without sanding.
It's obvious by the pictures that the smooth aluminum I used to cover my hole turned out beautiful. The farther forward towards the footwells I got, the more obvious it was that I may need to do some sanding.
I polished one side last night. The polish works great. I'm gonna go back at those foot wells and running boards tonight, and then polish it again to see how it looks before moving to the other side.
This is a cool project for this time of year, as all a person can do is poor a drink, open the garage door and wait for the ice to go off the lakes.

Don't dare touch it with 240 or 500. 1000 is ok but
any sanding you do will require a hard buffer wheel to
ever bring it to a hi polish afterwards.

When I did mine I started at 800 grit then 1000 then 2000. once it was all uniform I polished it. I would not go bellow 600 because you may just scratch it.
Looks good.

Wet sanding was the ticket. 1000 grit and another round of polishing. This is going to be done with a powerball or some sort of drill attachment next time.
It's too cold to ride the bike right now.
