I just ordered some studs and the tools to install them for my 09 RTX and assume I need tunnel protectors. Some posts suggest just using old hyfax but I don't have any. I ordered some simple plastic bars listed as generic tunnel protectors on Amazon for like $18 as anything from Yamaha was expensive.
Can anyone give me a brief expalantion as to how I should mount them? I figured on throughbolting them to the tunnel such that they line up with the lugs outbound of the studs. Is this correct and is it difficult to do? Also do they need to go the whole length?
Any suggestions, links or pictures are greatly appreciated as I am fairly new to all this.
TIA,

I'm pretty sure that they come installed from the factory. So unless someone removed them you should have them in there already.
Still a good opportunity to head to the garage with a couple of pops and "work" on the sled.

no factory tunnel protectors on phazers, unless the later models started doing so.
telstar, i think just in the back would be ok. but what length stud are you getting?
i had 1.080" on mine, & didn't have any issues til i messed around standing on the back 45s on the running boards. (no protectors either)
do you have the back hole plugged? if you don't you probably would be fine with nothing.

No stock tunnel protectors but the hole was removed for 09. The tunnel looks quite far away so I am surprised I need them but I guess it can't hurt to be safe.
I had a lot of confusion about the studs. I bought 1.25" extreme max studs but if I looked at the website right they are about .075" shorter than the stud boy 1.080. So I hope they are long enough to do the job. They did not arrive yet. I think they will protrude about 1/4" above the lug so that should hopefully be good.
That tedius studding job will definitely need a few beverages but nobody seems to mind hanging around working on the sleds when it is not freezing out and everything is not encased in ice!

When studding, advisable that you purchase/install these factory accessory tunnel protectors.
