Turbo Blanket

Anyone use a blanket on turbo ?

I do for my Garrett GT, got one off Ebay. Had to modify it slightly for my rear mount so it wouldn't restrict the wastegate actuating rod and also have clearance for the FPP trail muffler that runs along the turbine housing. I chose to use one to keep the temps down under the rear heat shield...

Count me in. I use blankets and wrapping only.
I have ditched the use of aluminum sheilds as they are of no use insulating against high heat glowing red turbos and pipes.
Only turbo blankets and header wrapping materials does.

I have the ptp blanket for the 25/28 and it fits very good and cleared the rod with no problems

Ditto on the blanket.... I use the lava rock blanket and header wrap
Not only can I touch the turbo with my bare hand after a full pull or an hour on the trails,
But I still have the original header from CPR and it's 5 years old
With nary a crack.... I put the blanket and wrap as the reason for the longevity.
Plus no more melting plastic or frequent stops to get rid of the under hood heat.

The PTP blanket and the Lava rock blanket are the same ones , right , where did you get yours here in Canada , if they have one for a Tail GT30 I my get one depending on price , think I will wrap my header , external waste gate and two down pipes .

I was told not to wrap or coat my header because you want to get rid of the heat to prevent cracks. Local company that builds high end turbo headers for cars told me this.

That is true if the header is not built to perfection when it comes to material and craftmanship.
We don't have the luxury of not wrapping the header and turbo as the Space is very limited. Mine is still in one piece, built by an high end header builder from Nova Scotia.
The water/meth injection sure helps in keeping the temps in check.
Another point about wrapping is to get the exhaust gases as hot as possible, as high heat = high velocity - for fast spool up.

Does PTP make a blanket for a external waste gate (tail MVS38mm) going to be ordering a Lava blanket for my Tail GT30 and some header/downpipe wrap , just have to call them to get the right ones .

well i have had mine wrapped for five years and it works perfect for me….
it's not the heat that cracks the pipe but the rate of cool down from high heat
the faster the cool down the faster it will crack
I have always ran my engine for 2 minutes before shutting down to let the water cool down the turbo and the e
header to cool slowly….works like a charm.

PS) i have the stock CPR header that came with the kit which is very prone to cracking…..but nothing yet.
