What do you need to rebuild the turbo for? Unless you had some sort of defect or failure it should be good for 10s of thousands of miles

Sounds like his dealer left him high and dry.

the biggest thing one could do to help the life of the turbo is let it idle for 30 seconds to a min before you shut it off. I get the fact that the engine gets warn but the longer you can let it idle to stabilize the oil temp will be better. Just shutting it down right when coming to a stop will stop circulation and the temp will rise then fall. We are talking about very tight tolerances and wheel speeds I would guess 150,000 rpm's. Does anyone have a turbo out and get the numbers off of it?

998 T has convection cooling system for after shutdown

not sure what that is but the concern is once the oil circulation is stopped the temp will go up before it goes down. Here is a cut away version of a to4b turbo. The tolerances for the bearings both axle and thrust are tight. The hot oil will start to coke on the turbine side.

makes sense....let her run for a couple minutes keep fresh oil circulating

the yellow areas are where the oil is hits both bearing or bushings then thrust and the rest goes to drain. just want to watch the coolant temp not to let run too long.

If anyone has any numbers of the turbo I would be interested (not Yamaha part number) both my btx's are at my house in the u.p. would probably order a chra for the turbo cause the season is shrt enough without having a failure or poss parts shortage. If someone can take a picture of the tag on it please post it.

Guys I don't have an issue at all I was simply asking when the time comes I would love to have a go to person to rebuild this sled.
I have 2000kms same belt, runs great, working on handling issues and good to know that I should let it idle.
I was always of the mindset that letting a sled idle just burns a dead spot in the belt.
Great machine silky smooth and pulls hard, headed to Gaspe next week for 5 days any advise were leaving from Rimouski.

I think the way you started your post it gave us the impression that you were not real happy with the "bullshit" Winder.
On the Gaspe trip we went last year and rode for six days. We left from RDL and went clockwise around the peninsula. First day to Matane-Mt st piere then the 597 through Murdochville to Pierce. From there to New Richmond then to Amqui. The trails to Amqui from New Richmond were by far the best we rode all week. The one change I will make next time is taking trail 587 off of TQ 5 instead of 5 all the way to Amqui. Then back to RDL. Make sure you check weather conditions everyday because you could have perfect conditions on the southeast part and blizzard conditions on the Northwest side. Enjoy it's a great place to go and we will be going back in the beginning of March.

If your turbo ever blows, why replace it with stock. Just phone Dave at hurricane and order up a nice new GTX turbo. 400+hp
