Turbocharged Yamaha RX1 on asphalt.

Well we finally had the chance to "drive it out the back door" for the 2 remaining licunse runs the rider needed to do and the results were pretty good. A 9.90 and a 9.84 at 138 MPH. Our clutching experiences are quite vast at this time and I am very confident now putting these ECP prepared sleds into the hands of customers for trail riding and lakeracing with a decent clutch system to go along with it. With the sled as heavy as it is, I am delighted with the results.
We have a race setup in the sled now with increased boost that is living and so far we haven''t had any signs of detonation despite the rather aggressive boost levels. Only problem with making this kind of boost (that I would rather not remark on just yet) is that the engine gets into the rev limiter for a good portion of the run. A 4 arm clutch should solve that problem though as we could wail the weight to it and see what this baby could really do! Despite the rev limiter, it still managed over 136 MPH!!! Imagine this engine setup like we do them with a serious clutch and lighter or better yet an ECP Pro Stock chassis! These sleds are indeed cool. Our knowledge with them grows everyday and I will share this knowledge with turbo customers desiring to know how to get the most out of your RX1 Turbo.

My guess is 14 lbs.
This sled should be running mid 9's at 140mph plus!!! THe clutching is all wrong!!!

To run 140mph do you have to change gearing as well as clutch work? Damm that's fast.

A couple of my co-workers were at the local drags here in Billings, Mt at our new NHRA sanctioned track. They both (at different times) told me of an RX-1 turbo turning 8's @ 150+ mph
8) . I might have to check out the races and see what this guy is running. If I find out I'll let you all know what he's got.

Re: RX-1 Turbo
No, I am afraid that this sleds owner and I have parted company. The boost was about 13-14 pounds during these runs. The sled was not lightened whatsoever either (in fact it was probably heavier than stock) and we had very little full runs on it as the rider was trying to get licensed and he was not allowed to make any full runs until the last 2 runs of the day. Up until then, we had absolutely no clue what the clutching was going to do at peak.
The clutching was indeed all wrong for quarter mile running as it was on the rev limiter (thereby showing lot's of power) for a good portion of the run. There have been some deceiving things done to me with this sled since then that I have learned of so my remarks then are a little miscued because basically I did not have control of the tuning because the rider made some changes that he elected to not tell me about. Plus I made the mistake of showing him how to adjust the boost.
With my later learned things of what he did to the sled without my knowing, I suppose it was a miracle that it ran as well as it did. 140 MPH given the circumstances just concretes my feelings that turbochargers are capable of producing massive power but managing them is the key. With our turbo sales comes a very detailed "schooling" of what to do and what not to do. I have built 6 second 200+ MPH funnybikes and others and know what it takes to keep them alive. The owner of this sled had different ideas and he paid dearly for them in the end. This disappointed me greatly.
