Hello everyone, sorry to start a new topic on this, but I just got Ulmer's stage 1 clutch kit in the mail today. Ordered it last Friday! Alan gets stuff out quick! Great guy! I opened the package and noticed a lot of inserts, o-rings, washers, screws, etc. Now, my question, I'm assuming the weights are already set-up to what Alan thinks is best, to my weight, riding style etc., correct? And the extra hardware is for toying around with different set-ups, correct? If this is the case to both of these questions, I can install and start praying for snow, correct? Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Think snow!!!! P.S. I posted in this area because I know I will get the most responses! :4STroke:  :yam: :rocks:

My attak had the ulmer stage II already installed when I bought it...all I can say is..wow!! My attak hammers my
buddy's apex, which has a different companies clutch kit in it....start to finish..usually 5 to 6 sled lengths everytime.
Fun....fun...fun....wanna race?? LoL

I see you're in northern Wisconsin! I ride there a lot and also the UP. Would love to race! What the heck! I'll be up there mid-January, first week of Feb., and 3rd week of Feb.!

I will be in watersmeet with a large group superbowl weekend...if ur ever in the tomahawk area drop me a line...i know the trails around here well...and can point out some great places to eat.

If allen still uses supertip weights,he should of already loaded them up for you,i think stage 1 is just weights and primary spring? Look at the weight,or ramp,if some of the 3 holes are filled with round tongsten weights, and have a little rubber O ring with set screw, than yes you are all set to go,and you are correct, the other washers, rubber O rings and weights, are for additional tuning.

Hey...I just noticed u have a vector...We may have to trade sleds for a few miles...don't know if I can give up the top end on my attak..but if it's close the new vector might be my next sled...getting older...like to have fun..but honestly, don't really need to go as fast as this sled goes.
BTW...vector with ulmer stage one vs attak with ulmer stage II...not a fair race IMO...lol :drink:

Yes, he still uses the supertips and he sent me the weights, spring, and helix with some of the 3 holes filled. Thanks! I'll install this weekend. Looks fairly easy according to the instructions!

If we hook up, yeah you can ride it! I absolutely love the sled. I was one for the high horsepower sleds prior to this one but wanted a nice smooth comfortable sled. And I got what I was looking for! Only way I will get rid of it is to get another one!

Installed the kit last night. My first time ever working doing clutch work. Went fairly well. Installing the weights and spring in primary went very smooth. Installing the helix, well, that took a while. In Alan's instructions, he says for the secondary spring to go into the '3' hole on the secondary and the other end into the '6' hole in the helix. I did that and man was that tough to twist! But got it! The numbers on the secondary were hard to read but I THINK it's in the '3' hole. Put all back together and reviewed the instructions and came across Alan's set-up sheet. Read that and found that he wants a 3-3 spring wrap! Now, he did not send me a spring for the secondary. So I'm assuming 3-3 means both 3 holes on secondary and helix? Last question, when I took off the secondary and placed on a towel, noticed a washer/spacer on back side and 4 washer/spacers on front. Re-installed everything to how I believe it came apart and that went well, but I noticed the secondary has a little movement pushing and pulling on it as I'm staring directly at the helix. Normal???? All in all, directions are spot on!! Thanks for the replies!! Also, just started it and the engagement went up to about 3800. Factory spec is 31-3500. All ok???

Yes, The secondary clutch should float.

Ha Ha so now you know what 90 degrees of twist has for spring tension, yes generally 60 to 70 degrees of twist or wrap, whatever one wants to call it,those are numbers in degrees,so 7 and means 80 degrees,8 and 1 means 90,you got it,so your good to go,you are now at 60 degrees, and he most likely wants your full shifted rpms at or around 10,600-10,800,if its not that high at wfo throttle, than increase your wrap,or adjust your weights,by subtracting some tip weight,or whatever his instructions suggests.

Guys, he has a Vector, not an Apex. Your top rpm will be in the 8400 to 8600 rpm range. Yes, use your original secondary spring and follow the setup sheet for spring position of 3-3. Your engagement at 3600 rpm is correct, yes.

Excellent, thank-you!! One last question, are the bolts that go through the sleeves for the weights supposed to be torqued to a certain spec or just tightened/snug?
