hey guys.. tried to get a hold of allan today but he was busy so i will try here. installed a stage II kit in my sled a couple of weeks ago and have noticed that half the time i wot my rpms go straight to 11000 and other times it goes to 10000rpm then climbs up to 10800-11000. so this has me confused on weather i should be adding or subtracting weight?? my belt is also new and deflection in bang on.. any ideas??

Air temp swing can do that, colder air makes more power and therefore will rev higher. If it's warm out, the air is less dense and will make less power, rev lower... same clutching.
Temp of the clutches also, if you've been beating on it and the sheaves are hot, that will cause a fluctuation in RPM's as well. (belt slip)

Traction and conditions will have a major impact what kind of rpms your running. Wet, heavy snow will really suck down rpm's, and hard snow or ice with minimal traction will really let the engine rev. There isn't one answer that is going to work everywhere... nice thing about the apex is the powerband is so wide, it doesn't really matter!

well went out tonight and noticed that i am really lacking in top end power. but i am running in 2C temp. and the snow is really sticky... but i am also running with 2 other apex's and the stock one is kicking my #*$&@!!! not sure what to think at the moment! 0-80mph is good but that is about it! what is everyone running for weights anyway... i have about 220 rider weight and have 4-2lower. 0-0mid, 1-0tip.

if under rpm take out tip weight, also try stock pink secoundary spring at 6-1, silver spring is to soft,ScottyD said:in my stage 2 i have 1 tungsten in the heel and 1 washer in the tip and the mid is empty

I recall this night. I was having problems too. Turned out I had a spark plug issue. Anyways did you get this dialed in before the season ended ?
I know he is really busy this time a year and he is heading to wisconsin for this week for the snowmobile show.
I just got my Stage 2 from Ulmer this week. Is the Helix supposed to be really tight. The old Helix slid on/off easily. I'm don't have experience with clutching, but is a new helix normally tight?

Guys this post was originally from February 26th of last year.
Carver, please PM me with your name or give me a call. We had several helixes that the bushings are too tight in. If yours is tight it needs to be replaced with a new one which the tolerance is set correctly on. I will ship you a helix and give you a credit for returning the helix you got. Please call me as soon as you can.

PM sent, I only posted here after doing a search for Ulmer Stage 2.
Never thought I would have vendors answering questions at midnight. I'm happy with my kit, and it is not even installed yet. Great service Ulmer
