Rode a new Viper Ltx and was not impressed. If you closed your eyes and rode this blind you would think you were driving a cat or Polaris.
Twitchy, rattles, steering, brakes, all sub par
Standing position very poor, shins and knees not comfortable.
Sorry but I'd be hard pressed to warm to this until it is improved. Very poor finish.
Look, this is not a great marriage as it isn't like Audi partnering with Lamborghini?
This is like Toyota with Chevy.......just not on the same wave.
Don't bash me Chevy owners but in my drive I have two Toyotas, Silverado, BMW and a classic ford so I know, trust me I have the repair bills to prove this!

Ummmm.... Not trying to be a smart a$$ but you were on a cat, well kind of anyway.
That being said I drove my BIL's xf 800 limited and I was very impressed with the seating position, but not so much the cornering. Felt like it needed more aggressive carbides or different skis. It did have ALOT lighter steering than my nytro though.

I am in the same boat as you. I hear guys say that the chassis is great and Yamaha don't know how to build a chassis as good as cat or Polaris. Seems like a easy fix for a company that can build super high HP small liter engines for race cars but can't build a awesome sled chassis. Fire the idiot engineers and hire new ones. They charge enough for a sled that is non turbo compared to the other three that offer a factory turbo sled in their line up. Their profit margin has to be higher. I am sure the wages in Japan are not as high as North America. I might be wrong.
We were riding with a cat guy yesterday on a turbo cat and he took out another belt, 5th belt in 1700 miles . All were broke in. Longest belt was 700 miles. Yesterday the belt had maybe 200 miles and it was a easy riding day . Boom goes the belt. He has done all the updates from cat, air vents , belts broke in right. Track always ratchets even if it is piano wire tight. Stabbed his track , put in a anti stab 2 wheel kit, still stabbing the track, installed 2 more wheels. He has just had enough and is thinking Doo or Polaris for his next ride. Last cat he liked was his old F7. This coming from a guy and family that truly bled green. He said it is just one thing after another and he is done and going up for sale.
I think it might be 5 yrs before we see a true Yamaha sled again if ever. To bad, they did build some over engineered stuff ( meaning strong built sleds).

I am very nervous that Yamaha are doing this.
This is my third Yamaha and best. I have almost 20k on it and it drives and handles great. A few issues like everything but I almost had a sleepless night thinking oh my god just spent $15k on crap
It was actually going back in time with the whole feel. I drove it hard and no thank you

You know the nytro's steering can be lighter, lolnewfie09xtx said:Ummmm.... Not trying to be a smart a$$ but you were on a cat, well kind of anyway.

Its all a trade off! Can't have light steering and great cornering! Pick what you want most and deal with the rest.
With that said I know lots of people hate the nytro, but I think it has better ergos than most sleds out there. Just needs a little tweaking, no sled out of the box is going to fit every rider.

I am with you on that. I also test drove the SR Viper LtX XTX and RTX. was not impressed at all. I am saving my money and keeping my 08 Nytro RTX that i spent a lot of time and money by re-valving the shocks installing JRE spindles and lowering it 2 inches front and 1.5 rear OFT steering relocate replacing the skis skid plate along with a few other things i cant remember. My next upgrade will be a taller seat and when its time to change the track install the 128 relocate kit and i will have the perfect sled for my riding style end of story

Last spring, I declared a Viper would be in my garage. Sitting on one at the dealer was enough for me.... to cause a change of mind.... back to a Nytro.

I just finished installing a Cat track on our nytro's and it took the wind out of my sails. power claw. Crap snow this year and I am tempted to put the Maverick back on. I know that one bites in on hard pack and hooks up.. The PC might show its better side if we ever get some good snow fall. I pinned it yesterday and leaned forward thinking it was going to launch like it did last year and almost kissed the windshield when it just spun. After 30 mph it hooks up good. Works good for fast corners where the nytro would push, just stab the happy flipper and slide the rear end around the corner.
Just one little piece of a Cat and my sled was rejecting me. Would hate to have a 95% CAT and 5% Yamaha sled.
Back ordered accessories, Cat getting parts first, Issue recall only after cat does. They have to follow through on this and not just wait to fix it on next years sled. All kinds of cat badging under the hood. I think there is a lack of communication and coordination and piss poor leader ship on Yamaha`s part. I will keep the Nytro`s for a few more years yet. I fix more Cats then anything else in my garage , sure as hell not going to buy one. That's why I went with a Yamaha 4 stroke. Wasn`t my first choice in brand but was the smartest choice in reliability.
I will take my outdated mechanical reverse that weighs probably 5 pounds less then Cats electronic reverse. I only use it 2 times a day anyway. Sorry I lied 3 times a day. Twice backing off the trailer and once backing up the driveway into the garage.

Yamaha isn't sticking more money in their pockets than the other manufactures. At 5+mill just to get one motor through emissions testing and ready to start producing them along with the dollar to yen situation it means they need to be tighter on the product. Also they offer a turbo but on a much more inferior motor. So buy a Mazda 3 with factory turbo or a ferrari. And then bitch ferrari cost more and had no turbo. Pointless.
Also they still offer a product that produces same hp as rest of the group it's in so why does it matter if it has turbo. Honestly I think the dozen guys on here that beg for factory turbos are the only ones that truely want them vs rest of the world who don't, and don't want anything to worry about mechanically.
Sadly and hate to get everyone mad I feel the sled that's missing is a high torque version of phazer motor in a chassis such as the viper or along lines of the cat snopro500 sled. Something a 12-16year old can be excited to have and excited to show their friends and bash around trail with. A turbo sled would be less than 1% of their market IMHO

There's good and bad about both sleds. But I still have not been on a better standing position sled than nytro.
09nytro I'm really happy for you and your sled. Would you like some of my problems so that we're kinda equal?
