update on inline heater??

For the Canadians i have seen then at royal too...

the gel heaters that you can magneticly attatch to your oil tank would be best. this heats the oil not so much the coolant...this allows the ecm to have true readings from the coolant temp sensor and iat sensor...as well as helping lube the engine easier. no mess and easier to install. just not sure where to buy one.. if its that cold i stay inbed with the wifey and watch some movies. :o)

Agreed, is the cold oil not the problem? added friction.

Here are a few pics

Thanks for the pix apexdriller! They are nice & clear & show good detail. You sure managed to get the heater right close to the bottom, sheesh looks like you almost ran out of room, lol!!
I am from Canada, just east of the Manitoba boarder & located in Ontario.
Went to crap tire & they said they do not & can not order those heaters anymore!
Sleddog says yamahasportsplaza sells them for 27 bucks & yamahas says that royal distributing carries them as well.
I seen this kid just walk up to his four stroke Phazer today & start it like nothing......IT"S -32 fricken degree Celsius today!!!! If I tried to start mine today it would ( if it could talk, say) WHAT-EVER!lmao!!!
I wonder why those Phazer's start so good?

Another thing you can do to make sure it starts is to take the battery inside with you at night. This way your battery can turn over the engine no problem. The cold barest is also part of the cold start problem.

Might be be because the phazer is so small that is dose. It takes much less for it to turn over. The apex has doble the cylinders and each are what double the size of the Phazers? Lol my phazer has never had a hard time starting. Even. After traveling on an open trailer for 4 hours at minus 28c.

There is no way in hell that anyone that owns an Apex will take their battery in at night to warm it up. It is a major pain in the arse just to access it. I don't know about your phazar but this is simply not an option. Plus I find my battery, no matter how cold it is -40 or colder, turns the engine over sufficient enough for it to start (even when NOT plugged in). It is just harder on wear and tear of engine if you do not plug it in. I've never ever had my snowmobile "not start" regardless of how cold it was (except for when the bloody fuel pump relay froze-up/condensated on me the first time).

:o| oh yea forgot about that. mine is a 2 second job to get to

I installed one on my Attak this year, went on a few trips where it was around 0 in the morning. Cranked over much quicker, started flawlesssly, and the red warm up light never even came on! Just like I pulled it out of the heated shop! Let it still warm up for 5-10 minutes and go. I thought it worked great!

Yup 5-10 minutes then give er.

I do not see how the coolant being warm would cause the engine to flood when trying to start the engine. Last time i checked a warm engine requires less fuel than a cold engine, so the fact that the coolant temp sensor is warmed should not cause the engine to flood. I have personally installed 20 to 30 of these heaters on apexes, nytros, phazers and even 700 grizzlies and never had a complaint of the engine flooding and not starting after. Now if anyone has purchased the Yamaha one and read the enclosed instructions Yamaha states "This heater has been designed for overnight operation, however usually 2 to 4 hours is sufficient." I would tend to think that plugging it in for 10 minutes really does not heat motor at all. These heaters do not have a pump to circulate the coolant. The coolant does kind of circulate due to the fact that heat rises.
As for heating the oil tank I would agree that this helps but 0W30 pumps pretty easy in the cold. So a coolant heater would be better. If any one has used a oil pan heater versus a coolant heater on their vehicle would see the difference.
FYI Yamaha P# SMA-HEATR-CL-NT (Canada)
These heaters are a 375 watt 1" (inside diameter of hose) inline coolant heater. They are made in Winnipeg by Phillips Temero Industries sold in Canada under Zero Start. Most auto parts stores should be able to get one or one similar.

No sh_t!!! lol, it would be quicker to widen the door to the house & park the sled in the living room!! haha. Ya, all kidding aside, the sleds turn over very good no matter how cold it is, they just don't like to start!
