Useful Info on Fuel Shutoff Valves

Grapeape, are you talking about the Dennis Kirk 1/4 and 5/16 valves? It seems that they should work, Even if a 600cc two stroke is spitting some of it's gas out the exhaust it still has to go through the shutoff valve first, I ordered a set of the 5/16 ones they look like they will mount easy no brackets or interfearing with each other if there mounted side by side. if they dont work then Ill go to the other ones and be out an extra $30.

I was at the Yamaha Dealer (Winnipeg Yamaha) and I was told that Yamaha now has fuel shutoff valves for the Rx1...It apparently it's an all in one unit, two fuel lines in and two out with one shutoff valve. Apparently it doesn't even have a part number but the dealer has ordered a number of them...He is going to check and see if he can get me one ASAP as an upgrade...Anyone else heard of this?????

When you find out let me know!!

Yamaha fuel shut-offs

Any bets on who pays for this? On a side note does anybody know if fuel will flow through an electric fuel pump if it id off? I'm thinking that will work as a shut off. Somebody mentioned that the needle valve would keep fuel from flowing to the bowl. This would be true except when trailering and bouncingnthe floats would be moving up and down allowing fuel into the bowls which could end up in the engine

How's this for a cheap, removable, non-permanent solution :p :p :p

Serioulsy though guys....I will be clamping my hoses for our trip next week as I will proabably not have time to get around to getting the shutoff valves ordered and installed. I will probably use something similar to this....

the ones I bought are MINI and are only about 4" long

:p :p :p Based on what I said in my above post I actually did do what I said I would. I went to out local hardware store and picked up a pair of mini-ratchet clamps for $9.99 for the pair. I put some sticky velcro (the soft fuzzy) portion of velcro on the square clamping area and clamped each hose. I took Mighty's advice as to whether or not the hose would lose it's shape and it turns out that the area (and the actual hose) heats up enough that the rubber gets very soft so it won't lose shape. I will post pics!!!

PS. They WORK GREAT!!!

Just got back from Canada. trailered a total of 850 miles to and from.
I used the straight shut offs that I purchased from JR Graham for $8 each.
Pretty easy install!
When I got there, the first thing I did was to turn the engine over by hand at the primary clutch  Then I opened the valves and she fired right up :D
They worked well, no problems

I just bought two shut offs for my RX. Found them at a Car Quest auto parts store. On the package it said they were made by Briggs and Stratton. They are in-line ones, so no need for brackets. They look just like the ones that are under the gas tank on any small engine made by Briggs. I have a roto-tiller with this one on it. They are black with a red turning top to shut the gas off. They were three dollars twenty-one cents apiece. Quite a deal for what they will save! Honk

I know the one's you are refering to Honk, I'm concerned on their durability. I have one of those on my generator and it leaks. I fire the generator up about every 6-8 weeks and always turn off the gas when I shut it down and on several occaisions it leaked. I simply rotate it back and forth a couple times and it stops.
