i have a 06 apex with 18000 miles
after running it for and hr or longer come to a stop
and it dies.
when you go to crank it the starter sounds weird like its skipping
a beat
give it gas startes up and runs good for another hour or so
has anyone seen the exhaust valves tighten up
ive got the valve cover off and one cyl is a tight .004
-----------------------------------------------------------
the rest of them seem to be a loose .004-.005 exhaust
intakes are a loose .004
ive already turned the idle up with the knob and
the 4 little adjuster screws (air screw = out )
any suggestions thanks

Don't know how .004 thousands can be both tight and loose! I'm also not sure how the problem is valve related! Almost sounds fuel related. Maybe try turning the air screws in!

I have seen some high mileage Apexs do this and have yet to find the issue. I also have not checked the valves on it yet.

It has fuel injection so if you are turning any screws then you have the throttle body's all out , so now you will have to get some gauges and tune them back in , it also ( from what you are saying ) sounds like your starter is going bad as well ....

Starter is an easy swap, and very probable at that many miles. Check the thread on the CO adjustment for Apexes. Many of us with "moderate" miled Apexes experienced the stall when coming to a stop and fixed it with a CO adjustment.
Good luck,

Usually the valve problems on high mileage sleds effect cold start-ups. Usually, but not always

I have the same issue with my Attak and lots of guys on here do. If I try to start it right away after the stall, it cranks a lot slower than usual....give it 5 seconds and it will roll over normally. Very strange, I know. As already mentioned, adjusting the CO numbers helped me some but not a complete cure. Since it cranks over slowly directly after the stall, it almost seems like a weak battery issue, so I will be installing a new battery for this season. The machine works great other than this issue. Mine has 11.5k miles on it.

My friend has(had) one with the same mileage that did the same thing. I wonder if a valve adjustment is in order.

My ape is random, it doesn't do it all the time. Plus I have never heard tell of this type of problem with high mileage RX1's so it seems more of an electrical issue to me. It is frustrating having an EFI sled that does this!!!
