Does the Vector three-cylinder suffer from the same chronic exhaust problems as the Apex models (blown gaskets and pipes)?
Are there any common problems that the newer Vectors are known to have?

The donut gaskets have been noted to leak or wear out on higher mile models close to 10 housand miles some sooner

What are u talking about? Some Yami bike?
I would venture a guess that Vector exhaust donuts need to be replaced on average at 3500 miles. Some don't last as long, some last longer. I base this on reading countless posts, not only on TY.com, but other boards as well.
I just put the third set of donuts on my 05 Vector to start the season fresh....the 2nd set started to leak at about 7000 miles. I have 7800+ miles on it now.

Myself and my buddy are new to Yamaha. (A friend of mine opened a Yamaha dealership) How much is it going to cost him to get them changed? What is it suppose to take a dealer for time/hrs to change them? Will he have fair warning, noise? Will he be able to finish off a weekend before bringing it in if we're up riding someplace? He has an 08 Anniversary Vector, with 5500 miles. Thanks, Mike.

The donuts on my '06 Nytro were shot at about 6000 miles.

Pat - this will be the fourth time I have replaced the gaskets in 8000 miles on my Apex. I have paid a shop to do it each time and its getting too expensive. I was thinking of selling the Apex and getting a Vector GT or Phazer and was wondering if they suffered the same problems. It appears as though they do, just not quite as frequently. Looks like keeping the Apex and learning to do the gaskets myself is the less expensive option.

Good choice i think. I'm suprised there isn't an aftermarket fix or up date with this. Mike.

i think there are some aftermarket gaskets but iirc people have had problems with them. it has been recommended to remove a little bit from the spacer tube that's welded to the clamp to allow the clamp to cinch up tighter on the joint.

the problem is the clamps imo, when i did my warrior,i grinded the clamp so they wouldnt bottom out before being tight,i dont think the phazer has donut problems, mine doesnt and you dont hear many that are replacing them, once youve replaced them once, its not that bad

Any idea how much is a little bit or does one just keep grinding/filing until snug?
Just wondering if it is easy to see/tell that you have ground enough off?

Read the "sticky" post here on changing exhaust donuts. In it it talks about grinding the clamps.
