Vector with 79,000+ miles!!!

Anyone heard what kind of maintenance he's had to do in that time? (Besides the obvious.....Oil, bearings and track) Any big issues?

Mr. Sled (Tom) are you still doing the annual high mileage award? If so, I think Nick should get it even though he is probably not a T.Y. memeber.

To answer the question about major maintenance, just stop by Haydays 2014 and ask him. Nick is always there with Mary Jane and is willing to talk to anyone that will listen as well as to take donations for his charity. He is a helluva nice guy!!!

I see Nick up at Pats' Yamaha evreytime I go up there. He has a place near Greenland so he frequents it. Anyhow, he was telling me Yamaha offered to give him 3 new sleds in exchange for his Vector. He turned it down and now Yamaha is turning their backs on him. They have refused to acknowledge his efforts. I guess they must feel it would be bad for their reputation if the sled were to break down now? I don't get it, How many other sleds have anywhere close to this many miles? His goal is to hit 99997 miles. He is not going to turn the century mark on the sled. The numbers have meaning. I believe 97 is the year his mother had passed.

Anyone else think Nick should get the high miles award this year? He has done this every year since 2010 and has been a great embasedore for Cancer awareness and Yamaha.

Looking at the date this was taken this was on Feb. 8th, 2010 when I took this. He had around 36,000 miles on the machine at this point. He had a groove worn into the primary clutch face from riding at the same general speeds of around 50 mph. Have to obey the law when doing a world record like this. He had a new clutch installed when this was taken and he said Yamaha covered it under warranty. From my understanding Yamaha was supporting him at the time with the world record for miles in a season. In fact Pat's had the cardboard ad standing in the dealership advertising Nick's record miles.

If Yamaha doesn't like the idea that these are lasting too long you would think they'd jump back on the 2 stroke bandwagon in a heartbeat. We know they build a direct injected 2 stroke outboard that goes like crazy. I just watched some recent episodes of Sledhead 24/7 where they did the 2015 sled shoots out at Yellowstone. As usual the Yamaha (and Cat's) seemed to take 2nd fiddle to either Ski-Doo and to Polaris. On the trails for 2015 the new Axys chassis Rush 800 won hands down while the other segments Doo seemed to win including the mountain segment where Polaris normally takes the honors. Their new T3 Summit was the only unit they could not get stuck. They rode the Viper MTX w/turbo but still said at the end of the day the weight wore you down. But as said it seems the Yamaha gets constant knocks for the weight penalty. Also I noticed they said the Cat version with the Yamaha motor had more low end snap in the trails than the Yamaha Viper did because of the clutch calibration of the Cat clutches vs. the Yamaha clutches.

Great..so now cats clutches are even better in a Yamaha powered sled! Wth :o|

Well they did throw in the fact that being these two machines were the shorter track versions (129) that normally they are clutched for the flatland altitudes. They said they thought the Cat clutches were all re-calibrated for the higher altitudes for this test while Yamaha did not re-calibrate theirs for the 2015 shoot. It seems whenever they can take a shot at Yamaha they do but on the flip side Yamaha likes to leave the door open too. :o|
