2014 XF 8000 Limited or 2014 Viper LTX SE Which one would you buy? I was all set for the Red and Black Viper LTX but I am really liking the XF 8000 if AC has fixed the clutch issue and blown belts this year because of the relationship with Yamaha and the new clutch design on it may be a very nice trail sled. Any opinions.

The other sled would be 800 X Package Renegade.

Man I've been thinking about the same thing .....but every time I set and start thinking about it more I always fall back to the viper ......

Just so you know this will more than likely get moved to the head to head sec.

I keep going the Viper is not a 12,000 sled. The Apex is and the 800 sleds are worth it.

I am thinking 10,500 all day long but for 12,000 they should be putting a turbo on it.

Then I look at the 800 and go well at $200 a belt and that could be 7 belts we are at 12K.

Then I think well just wait until january and you will get the standard $1500 off

Banks 93 I think the key word in your post is "IF"! You know Randy G. had issues last year with his 2013 AC 800. As well as my issues with my 2013 1100 turbo eating belts.
I don't think AC is changing any of their sleds besides the 7000 because of the relationship with Yamaha.

They all have the new clutch with the 30% less heat.

Yes, I remeber your issues and know the dealer for Yamaha is 1000 times better but I just can't see paying 3,000 more for a Nytro motor when you can buy a Nytro, get a turbo for around 10,500 and then put split rail front end and still be under 12,000 and have 180HP.

If I put the MPI kit on the Viper it is going to cost me 12,000 plus $4500 for the kit and then more to install it. Now we are talking $17,500 for something that you can probably get with an Apex for 10,500 in a 2012 leftover.

These numbers for sleds are getting crazy.

The Nytro price dropped allot this year and it is one of the best deals in snowmobiles this year. The Viper is spendy but it's about the same cost as a new eltigre 6000. I snowchecked mine for 11,500 with YES stretching it to a 5yr warranty for another $100. An 800 cat will run you a little more than that even. It sounds like you want more HP then it has to offer anyway so it's probably not right for you IMO. If it had a turbo they would ask $15 not 12 because it would be in a different class of machines and pushing 180-190hp. It's priced just under the 800's and over the 600's which is where it falls HP wise. Only problem is its a new model in high demand so there isn't much to find for deals at the moment. The sled I have trouble deciding against is the 800 Indy SP. Still wrestling with that one but 4 stroke reliability and 5 years of warranty are keeping me on the hook. That and the way it rode and handled was amazing.

I hear where you all are coming from I ordered a viper ltx se and it was $12,400 otd I can buy a cat turbo for $12,760 otd xf I think the viper is gonna be a great sled, but I just keep thinking about the turbo. It's stupid to turbo the viper and have $17-18,000 in to it. IMO

The suzuki 800 twin is extremely reliable, has 30 more hp and weighs 50 lbs less. Smokes like a motherfudger and shakes like a paint shaker. If you don't mind burning oil, the 800 is the way to go performance wise. My good friend who is manager at a local candy store wanted me to trade my XF800 snow pro high country ltd for a Viper but its really hard to trade for the same sled and drop the power and add weight. Add the extra weight of a turbo and the power to weight ratio over a 800 2t twin is not that advantageous.

I came within a mm of buying a 800RR this year vs my Viper. RR was thousands less. Its not all about suspension, power and handling. For me its about refinement and reliability also. The Viper may not be the best at any of that but it is dang close I hope and the power and handling are close as I can get in a 4st without a doubt. I took the risk and will live with it. If anyone doesnt like it sit back and watch the story unfold this year. But dont knock us for taking the risk. I do take it personally and may need everyones help here to make my dream come true. Whats done is done.

I didn't mean it like that. If I didn't already have the Cat, I am 99% sure I would buy the Viper. Since I have it already, it would be silly to trade it for a more expensive sled (and considering depreciation) I would be out thousands for the 4t version. Plus I wouldn't get the 2.5" track and telescoping riser.

I understand Suckur. Just tired of the Viper being compared to other sleds. Each of us buys their sled for our own reasons. TY is more about helping Yamaha owners enjoy what they own not about bench racing. Lets get into the nuts and bolts of the sleds. Let the snow and season decide what is best. Surprised no one has even asked for belt specs since they are here now.

I was just asking for opinions not ripping anyone. We are all in the same point. Feels like they got us :o|

I keep coming back to reliability also and leaning to the viper. I just wish they were 10,500 like they will be in 3 months and then I would buy it on the spot.

I didn't get to try one out so I don't know if I will like it better than the Vector with EPS. That doesn't have all the HP but it does handle the trail amazing and the steering is very light compared to the Apex with EPS. Just wish the seating was more rider forward like the Viper.

I guess my perfect sled would be Viper LTX with Apex Motor and EPS.

Maybe I should sit this one out until next year.

26 different changes to the 2014 Cat m8 from last year including a completely new secondary clutch. Not hard to see Yamaha's hand in most of those improvements. Back on point I may yet buy a Viper, after the season gets going and I can try one out. And, I always have the option of converting my 2014 M8 into a mountain Viper (spare Nytro kept for engine).

I guess I was wrong, I didn't realize Yamaha was assisting AC with all their 2014 sleds???

They are not. That is fantasy.
