as a newbie to snowmobiling one challenge I have is understanding the lingo. maybe one of you techies could take the time to compile a list of common terms an definition's. ie when people talk shocks I get a little lost with adjusting due to my lack of knowledge with definitions. just a thought

It is probably easier if you tell us more specifically what you don't understand . Like with shocks for example. Maybe post this in the general forum, too.

Great idea Mike!

To tell you the truth, the best way to start learning terminology and what adjustments do, is to first read your owners manual... Many people ignore this for some reason, yet the manual explains a lot of info specific to your sled along with illustrations.

Then, start servicing your sled, ie. Oil change, lube bearings, check fluids, grease suspension, sit on sled and pretend your riding :) you'll learn a lot quick. Make sure you make a "vroom vroom" noise when you're sitting on your sled.

rebound damping force , compression damping, are two of the terms I see. I realize there will be a learning curve . I'm familiar with the general terms. I have scoured the owners manual and I agree the more I read and get to know the machine the more I will learn. thanks for your help. I am learning a lot from this site. I was on here before bought this sled and decided a orange dot on that adjuster dohicky would be a no go. it had a blue dot I brought home.

I have read the manual but must not have the "vroom vroom" supplement. LaLaLa

How many miles? It has the Mono skid right? IMO - run the track much looser than the specs. Whole different animal than your 2000 Doo. Enjoy the ride!

4500 miles. not sure whats stock or not. bought from a dealer who does it all in big bend. they replaced doughnuts. wheels don't look factory from pics I looked at. slides look real good. is missing 6-7 lugs. I guess as winter wears on I will get educated on what may be needed and to learn the mechanical side. I will need some crap done at dealer due to my jack of all trades master at none intellect. ran vin thru Yamaha nothing noted if that means anything.

Low miles for the year which is good IMO. Missing lugs = I'd bet it was only ridden locally down there. I used to live in the Tichigan lake area...know the trails well. LOTS of info on this forum about your sled and things to watch for. The engine will probably outlast the chassis.

IMO - with the miles you have on it, the biggest things to keep an eye on are:

1. Cracked welds in the skid
2. Exhaust donuts (yours should be good for at least 3k+ miles)
3. Warped idler wheels (do not replace them with Yamaha wheels!)
4. Not sure if the 2006 Vectors had the handlebar warmer issues (somebody help here?)
5. Rear skid does not have grease zerks (?). Pull skid next summer and clean and lube everything.

Your 2000 Doo was probably an MXZ style lowrider? If so, the Vector will have a whole different feel on the trail.

When I think of Big Bend, WI and snowmobiles, I can't help but to recall "Stenders Planet Polaris".

road track trail. they replaced doughnuts. there are zerks on suspension. my doo was a two up touring 500 lol.
