Can the experts weigh in?

My friend has a 2004 Warrior. He didn't even start it last winter conditions were so bad. So last week he went to start it and the tank was bone dry, all the fuel having evaporated over the summer. So he put in some fuel and fired it up with the track up on a stand. All good, it started and idled perfectly.

Now the problem. He twisted the throttle and it wouldn't go past 40 k on the speedo.

So the questions are: what could the problem be, and what should he expect to hear from the dealer. He is just concerned about being bent over by the dealer. He doesn't mind doing what's necessary, but would like to be prepared.

Carb rebuild, cleaning the jets, or is the issue simply putting through a decent fuel treatment?

Thanks in advance.

What RPMs was he getting- was it bogging?

Good question. He says if you crack the throttle it goes up to 2500RPM, gags and stalls unless you let go of the throttle.

He tried some after market additive, but not sure what brand. Did nothing.

That help?

Can you turn the track by hand without too much force? (with parking brake off)

Edit- try running without belt to rule out drive train issues?

if the track turns free, it needs the carbs cleaned.

The screens in the tank could be clogged causing a fuel delivery problem and yes the carbs most likely need to be cleaned as well. You could try to put a product called mechanic in a bottle you can get it from Home Depot. It may clean things up but I have my doubts but worth a shot.

Hey guys. Interim report. Machine in the shop and going to get an overview. Mechanic thought it might be a fouled plug, but realistically friend is getting the carbs serviced.

I'll report back with an update.

Just heard back from my Warrior buddy. Apparently it was the carbs that needed to be cleaned. It's done and he awaits the snow.

Thanks to everyone
