RxThunder said:My 03 RX1 darted dangerously on the trail and was very hard to steer. I shimmed my skies, run woodys shaper bar 6" carbides, let the limiter straps all the way out and adjusted the transfer rod for more transfer. I also have the 13mm sway bar in it, darts very little now and has never handled better.
Thanks Thunder! excellent advise!

ski shimming is very easy project. I believe there are directions in the tech pages. If you are unable to produce the shims, let me know, I'll send you a pair. This simple mod changes all yammies to the better.

Thanks for the info. From what I read I need 1/4" plastic or hard rubber 1x2" ?
If so it seems easy to do..... Or is there a special material for the shim?
Thanks

I use 1" x 1/4" aluminum stock. Drill two small holes for screws and counter sink. The screws will keep the shims from disapearing.

Thanks Indy , after reading thes tech article on forward ski preasure I can't believeIndy said:I use 1" x 1/4" aluminum stock. Drill two small holes for screws and counter sink. The screws will keep the shims from disapearing.
That any engineer would think forward preasure is a good idea.....any type of ski will dart
Ice snow or water.... It's all bad. The angle of attack with the shim looks great
No wonder this works..... Thanks for pointing me to such a great fix for a real bad idea.
This is what I did to mine and it helped. Take a floor jack to the front and raise the skis off the ground and let them dangle. Back of both nuts on top of front shocks. Back off nuts until spring is loose. Tighten nuts with springs being loose. Nut should just touch the top of the spring, lock in place on both sides. That fixed mine and I hope that helps you. Plus it won't cost you any money to try it. Good luck.
Just did this to the shocks and it transformed the suspension
Thanks for the tip...... This along with the shims is a must do for a rx.
More so if you only weigh in at 105lbs......

I went to the dual carbide woodies... darting eliminated!
I have no darting with the dual carbides either. I also let out the front limiter strap all the way too for easy steering.... I've also heard of people using a piece of an old drive belt if shimming is needed...
Notice too that my a arms are parallel to the ground. Good starting point.

How do you like the 13mm sway bars, I was thinking of getting them?

Thanks to a
Everyone who has giving me advise.... It was fantastic to see how tech savy everyone is on this site.
So far I gave added a set of kimpex arrow II skis along with shims and 6 " carbides
On dual runners.
Re set the front shock springs as suggested and kept my a arms parallel to ground.
All I can say is WOW the combo has transformed the sled... At first I thought new skies
Don't make a 400 buck difference but I was wrong... They do; as I ride my sled ( same mods For darting) -except stock skis, it is night and day difference in sterling control, effort
And precision..... I had no idea..... So thanks for all the input!
