So i took the SE out for its first boot yesterday and i was taken it pretty easy cuz the of the marginal snow conditions. Every 5 minutes i would get off and kick snow into the track to grease her up. So 16 kms into the ride i noticed the yellow warning light come on. So I shut it down for 30 seconds started her up again and the yellow warning light was still on so I instantly shut her down again and off goes the hood to get the reading manual out. From what i got from the manual was that the when the warning light comes on there should be something else on the display as well (ex. warning light and coolant light meaning overheat) well it was only the warning light on for me. So I let her cool down for 10 mins. Started her back up and the warning light was off and never came back on the whole day. Given i only put 50 kms on her that day. So what gives? Anyone else have this issue while breaking in the sled?

I had that happen to me last season when my RTX was new. Nothing to worry about, you did the right thing, just let it cool off. In my case it was the motor being tight (new) and travelling at low speeds didn't help for cooling. Once she's all broked in you won't experience that unless in extreme conditions. The other option is, since your close by, you could trade your 09 SE for my 08 RTX, as mine doesn't over heat anymore. LOL.

Try checking your anti-freeze with a tester. Yamaha ships their sleds with 100% anti-freeze, and it seems that everyone has been getting better performance in both temperature extremes by getting it mixed properly.
I personally have no idea why this is the case, but all my Yamahas have been straight antifreeze.

Actually, after reading nate's post, I realized that I assumed your coolant and fluids were all in check. But nate is right. That would be the first step.

when the yellow light is on, you need to look at the dash for a warning icon. might be temp, low fuel might show a number code. dont just assume it is one thing without knowing what the icon/code is. this will help to keep you from chasing your tail. ski

Thanks guys good to know its nothing major. I'm not familiar with checking ant-freeze with a tester. Can you explain that?
And after getting a feel for the suspension package of the SE it would be hard for me to trade it for any other sled out there. This is definitely a big bump sled!!!

Thats the strange part. There was no icon, error code or other lights only the yellow light.

Just pick up an anitifreeze tester from your local parts/auto store. The are cheap too.
It almost resembles a small turkey baster. Just stick the end into your coolant resevoir and squeeze the little ball and release and it will suck up a sample of antifreeze. Then there will be a floating ball or small needle that reads you antifreeze to water ratio.
Very simple really.

My friend just bought a Nytro XTX. He took it today for it's first ride.
he had the same problem has you had. Yellow warning light lit and also the temp. icon on display for hot coolant. We dont have much snow right now... Checked coolant, level and everything looks ok. High temp. coolant lit most of the time while driving slowly. We'll see next ride...
Never happened to me with my MTX last year??

My buddy and I had our new Nytro MTXs in Valmount last week and they both threw the overheat warning the first 15 mins of riding them.
After that they ran great.
