my 04 warrior wont start when it sits outside in the cold for a few hours or overnight. when i turn the key there is nothing, I have to put an electric space heater under the hood pointed at the battery/starter relay area and after a few minutes it comes back to life.
Any body have or had the same problem? any help is appreciated

Starter relay is frozen They tend to store moisture and will freeze up and not move. It is the relay mounted to the battery tray. Warming A battery will not make it come back to life. Replace the relay Or disconnect it and bring it inside so it can dry out you could possibly seal it up. I had the same problem so I bought A new one. To prove that it is in fact the relay you can jump it when its cold and see if the starter works. Just put A large gauge piece of wire across the two terminals when it doesn't start and you will be able to verify.

thanks mikey, i did jump the terminals on my last ride with my leatherman to make sure it wasnt the battery it rolled over just like normal, i kinda figured the relay was the problem but wanted to get a second opinion.... probly doesnt help that my hood screen fell out on that side and dumped a bunch of wet snow right on that area. i'll pick up a new one at nelsons tomorrow. thanks again!

True: My thought was he had a weak battery and warming the engine will ease the power needed to turn it over. Also a warm battery does produce more current. Thats why they sell battery wamers.
Thanks for the post I had not heard about the relay problem.. That sure could save a headache out on the trail!

yes that is true Tony but they sell battery warmers so that they dont freeze... A frozen battery is A good as done battery. In A fully charged good battery there is not much of A difference in cranking amps between cold and warm. A abnormally hot battery will actually loose more cranking amps than a cold one will.
