I was so wrong, I had to start a new post. It's been 10 days. I rubbed the inner tube piece, and got black on my fingers, then ripped it in half. The rubberband also broke with little effort. I'm sorry, I was wrong.

My vacuum pump in the work van tipped over and spilled oil down into the side door seals. The seals swelled up that the door had to be slammed to latch it.

glad you saw the results!
use silicone spray it works awsome
in fact general motors impregnates all their weatherstrips with it from the factory-and recommends using it yearly on all rubber seals

Anything that is flammable will break down rubber. I work for a chemical manufactering company & in my biz this is common knowledge.

I use silicone spray as well. Also in my 98 SRX owners manual it said to use silicone spray on anything metal including the track before storing sled for summer.I also spray my sled down before the first ride in winter. To help keep the road slop off when it has to be hauled on an open trailer.
