Hi guys just wondering if anyone knows the true weight differences between
the rx1 and the apex. I have read in several posts that the 05's were about 7 pounds lighter than the 03's. Everywhere I go I read about how heavy the rx1 ton is and how nice the apex is. Anyone here actually tried them back to back to see how noticeable the weight difference is. I do realize that sleds get outdated real fast, but the old 4 stroker that stated it all seems to be like an old fossil.

The difference is negligible compared to the weight of the things. 7 pounds off of 550+ pounds is just over 1%. If there's another 7 pounds from 05-09, then you're still looking at just over 2%. The 03 is certainly no "old fossil" as you state. The frame and tunnel are identical, the only *important* difference in the engine is that fuel injection was added in 06 (this of course only matters if you're a complete moron who can't operate a choke), back suspension changed for 05, front suspension was updated slightly in 04 and again in 06, and seating position has been altered -- purely a matter of preference.

Not much

So I guess the 05 has pretty much the same suspension
as the new 09. Sure looks alike anyway. I have no problem with a choke only thing I have ever rode or drove except for a car had one. Must have alot to do with owning a newer machine, making your mind at ease. Thinking that is is much better than a 2 year old machine. I have an 05 and sure hope we get lots of snow this year. The apex is suppose to have so much more throttle response but am sure faster on the flipper will lead. :4STroke:

They weight a lot, but the motor has more than enough power to move it. And it doesn't even seem to be so much hp-to-weight ratio, since I can take sleds with equal or slightly better ratios. All that 4-stroke low end torque, the 2 strokes just can't match.

Is there a real power difference between the carb and FI motors? I thought Yamaha claimed 145 and 150 or something. 99% of the time mine starts like it has FI, barely blip the key and you're off, just when it's really cold it has to crank a bit before it catches.

I love my RX with the apex seat. I think it's the best of both world's. It was cheap, and does everything the Apex does. There is a slight power difference and a noticable difference in throttle response. I'll have to buy an apex soon just to keep current but I'm not looking forward to the colder ride and lack of hand warmers lol.
